  • Quality Art Sets a Stake Record in Alysheba Victory

Last year on Derby Day, Quality Art picked up a win in the Knicks Go for his first stake win. Since then, he has only continued to do more and more on the track and even if he wasn’t winning the Grade 1’s that he was running in, he was quite often within a length of the winner and cashing a check.

  • Spring Street Comes from Way Back to Win Eight Belles

Everything seemed to be going great for Spring Street after she broke her maiden. She ran well in both the Forward Gal and the Honeybee, sending her on the path to potentially run in another race later on the card here on Friday at CD. But her last race, the Grade 3 Fantasy, was a disaster. Would she be able to rebound from that while racing in the Eight Belles?

  • Maxmillion Farm Is Loaded Up for Forester Turf Classic

As everyone waits in anticipation of the KYD, there will be plenty of excitement in store in the race that immediately precedes it. That would be the 20th running of the Forester Turf Classic, which gives older turf horses a chance to run for a large purse. Plenty of great horses have previously won this race, such as Charming Behrens, Spanish Showboat, and Banshee Star.

  • Several That Just Missed Out on KYO Head to Eight Belles

The Eight Bellies is a good example of a race that has grown through time. When it first appeared on the schedule, it was a Grade 3, but only offered a $100.000 purse. It stayed around that level for around a decade before gradually increasing to $300.000. Then, last year, it would get another increase, up to its current level of $500.000, making it one of the highlights of KYO day on Friday.

  • There’s Plenty of Quality in Alysheba

The big weekend is upon us at CD, and while the KYO and the KYD are the true highlights of these two dates, there are plenty of exciting races being held on the undercard both on Friday and on Saturday with high purses of their own that trainers look to win. Here, we will look at the Alysheba, which is for older horses on the main track, taking them a little more than a mile.

  • Late Run Gets Twin Rackets the Win in Woodstock Stakes

Coming into the Woodstock Stakes, Twin Rackets was a horse that really needed a change of form. After showing so much promise as a two year old, his run through KYD preps were highly disappointing. That chase is now over, and his trainer, Alydar Stables sent him back to a sprint here to try and get him going once again.

  • Somehow a Longshot, Omnibus Wins Wilshire Stakes

A strong field lined up for the running of the Wilshire Stakes, and it seemed like it would be a pretty evenly matched race. That was not the case on the odds board, as two horses essentially took all of the money, leaving the rest of the field to have double digit odds.

  • Strong Field Lined Up for Sunday’s Wilshire Stakes

On Sunday at SA, we will have the 17th running of the Wilshire Stakes, a Grade 3 event on the turf for older females. The race first appeared on the schedule at HOL in 2006, and has been run every year other than 2016. It was in 2014 that the race was moved to SA, and the purse level has been consistent at $100.000 since its inception.

  • Who Will Get Higher in Woodstock Stakes?

It’s the final week of April, and while trainers are thinking about CD next week, there are still quality races to talk about before we get to that point. The $125.000 Woodstock Stakes might not be near the top of that list, but it still provides a solid racing opportunity for three year old sprinters.

  • Freed Up Powerfully Takes Times Square with Stretch Run

The NY Stallion Series- Times Square consisted of a group of seven horses looking to make a name for themselves. Only two of them have earned at least $100.000 for their career, and the highest amount of earnings coming into the race was $163.400. That would make this race about opportunity, a chance to get a big win and potentially set themselves up for bigger and better in their still young careers.
