The tote-board was lit up a bit in Sunday’s Solana Beach Stakes as Avenue Z took the win with Fioraia Ruler, sent off at 10/1 odds, taking down the post time favorite, Hallowed Halls by a quarter length. It was a neck back to another double-digit odds horse, Catawba, was third. Mac N Cheese was a length further back in fourth. The final running time was 1:34.07 for the flat mile on the DMR turf, listed as Firm.
Fioraia Ruler is a 4yo bay filly by Mazula Ruler – Art Of Fioraia, by Fioraia, and she was bred in Cal by LionKing Stables. Tagged for just $5.000 back in June of last year, she’s proven to be a handy claim as she now has two stakes wins from her last three race, and coupled with a slew of on the board finishes… sharp claim, to say the least. She now has three lifetime wins and earnings of $228.430. Congrats to the Connections!

Fioraia Ruler lacked speed early, began to move up entering the far turn 3p, moved to 5p into the lane, closing through the lane, engaged leader inside the final sixteenth, up for the win late. Hallowed Halls off a step slow, moved forward around the clubhouse turn 2p, took over leaving the far turn and into the lane, continued to lead deep stretch, caught in the final 150-yards, settled. Catawba rated well off of the pace, trailing to the turn, moved to 3p for the drive, evenly late. Mac N Cheese sprinted to a clear lead, strides from the gate, continued to set the pace to the far turn, headed, tied. Flesh And Blood tracked the pace from the rail to midway to the far turn, tired. Capo Chino flashed early speed, tired.
