The Tampa Stakes- Grade III
TAM Race 4 1 1/16M Turf
Purse $175.000 For Four Year
Olds and Upward
1st Banshee Star, trained by Joseph Racing
Raced in 3rd tracking the two pacesetters through the first 6 furlongs. Angled out as they moved around the turn and began accelerating. Powered to the front midway down the stretch and won by a comfortable length.
2nd Raj Action Packed, trained by Night Rider Stables
Battled with Expressly through relatively fast fractions for the first ¾ of a mile. Put that one away but was no match when challenged by Banshee Star. Fought on gamely to the wire and was able to preserve a dead heat for the place.
2nd T N T Dynamite, trained by Saratoga Stud
Used a little speed after the start to save some ground before the first turn. Raced in 5th down the backstretch 1 length behind eventual winner Banshee Star. Was never able to make up any ground on that one but was able to dead heat for the place.
4th Expressly, trained by Wolf’s Den
Moved out to the front right from the start but was unable to get to the rail. Was challenged by Raj Action Packed through the first 6 furlongs and was unable to keep pace. Did well to maintain 4th and earn a small check.
Summary
Banshee Star seems to have found a new life on the turf and could be a serious player throughout the year in the more prestigious turf stakes. Raj Action Packed ran a very game race as it looked like he would be passed for the place but fought nicely to the wire. I think he will find some success this year if we can find a happy medium between being on the lead and being too far back. T N T Dynamite certainly did not embarrass himself and I imagine we will see him back in a similar spot next out and may have more success with a better post.
