Six and a Half Furlongs on the Dirt

Baptisted By Fire came into The PID Masters Stakes hot, with back to back wins in the Desert Stormer and the Great Lady M Stakes. Each a nice graded win to have, but neither has good as this race would be. After six and a half furlongs, this filly would burn the competition and extend her winning streak to three with a length victory. She is trained by Mo Mentum Farm, and for the trainer, it is his first win in the race. Jockey E Maldonado is also a first time winner. Congratulations to them! The time of the victory was 1:15.14, the second quickest running of the race. Let’s take a look!

(1/4 Mile- :22.87)- The race begins with TwinTowersRacing’s Lady Narloff and Rock Creek’s Lucky Insist running quicker than the rest of the field and heading down the backstretch early on side by side. Midway through this portion, Lady Narloff would be about a length better than her closest rival. Catch The Trip would catch a stalking trip while running third on the rail, and a length behind her the stablemates from Mb Stables, Precise Performance and Story To Tell ran side by side. At the back, our eventual winner, Mo Mentum Farm’s Baptisted By Fire was content to let it all unfold in front of her, though she was only about four and a half off the lead herself.

(½ Mile- :45.66, Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Completing the backstretch trip and moving into the turn, things did not change all that much with the running of the field but business would pick up midway through the turn. There is no change at the front yet, as Lady Narloff continues to lead, but her frontrunning partner, Lucky Insist, is unable to keep up and begins dropping back. This forces Catch The Trip off the rail, but she’s perfectly content to move over a lane to make the pass of that rival and start to close in on the leader. The two Mb horses were not showing much as of yet, but as they approached the exit of the turn, and with the lane behind Catch The Trip available, E Maldonado emphatically positioned Baptisted By Fire into said lane, and his filly exploded with run. Almost in an eye blink, she was alongside Precise Performance and Story To Tell with her eyes set on the bigger prize.

(Finish- 1:15.14)- Into the stretch, Lady Narloff tried to hold her lead, but the rest of the field was closing in on her. Unfortunately for the moment for Baptisted By Fire, Catch The Trip was not gaining on the leader quick enough and Lucky Insist was hanging on along the rail. This meant that Baptisted By Fire could not continue to the explosive run she looked to have going until Catch The Trip moved down just enough to create an opening for Baptisted By Fire. Once E Maldonado saw this room, he sent his filly through and again, that explosiveness was seen. From there, it was good night to rest of the field as she was in a league of her own in the stretch, pulling away with authority to win by a length and a half. Catch The Trip ends up second best, and beats a three way photo for third by a length. The horses in that photo, in order, were Story To Tell, Lady Narloff, and Precise Performance. Lucky Insist was out of luck at the back.

About The Winner- Baptisted By Fire, trained by Mo Mentum Farm and ridden to victory by E Maldonado, is a six year old mare by the late Blue Sky Laws and is out of the late Buzz My Bell. She was bred by Jive Inc as a first quarter two year old in California, and was acquired by Mo Mentum Farm in a June 2021 private sale with Choppy Inc for $45.000. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fifteenth in 38 starts, her fourth stake win and third graded win. Her career earnings are now $813.280.
