Be Thankful for a Strong Falls City Stakes Field

Falls City Stakes (Grade 3)- $400.000 Purse
CD- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
One Mile and One Eighth on the Dirt
November 27, 2025

The field for Thanksgiving’s Fall City Stakes may be small, but there is no shortage of talent in the ones that are heading to the starting for the race. This race first appeared on the schedule in 2003 as a Grade 2 and held that designation through 2021. Also, the race had been a handicap up until last year. There were not many that ran in that race, either, with just four going to the gate, and it would be a three-length win for Riggins Racing’s Skydancer. She would only race three more times before being retired and has already produced three foals. Five are scheduled to run this year, here’s a look at those taking part:

1- Mightiness (Team 7 Illusions, ridden by Mario Gutierrez)- The five-year-old mare has had a strong year, but has been particularly mighty over her last three races, grabbing a win in the $200.000 Groupie Doll at ELP in August and following that up with a win in the Grade 3 DEL Handicap, a $400.000 race. Nearly made it three straight against NY-Breds in the $250.000 Empire Distaff but settled for second in a photo with Boardwalk Authority. She has an opportunity to get revenge on that one right here.

2- American Sky (Riggins Racing, ridden by J R Velazquez)- After running third in the BC Distaff last year, American Sky was not able to return to that race as a six-year-old, but that has not stopped her from winning three of seven on the year. Two of those wins are open allowances, including one at FE for $21.000, but she would successfully return to graded competition in July and won the Grade 3 Trillium Stakes. She’s only raced once since then and was second in the Grade 2 Locust Grove in mid-September.

3- Boardwalk Authority (Winning Link Stables, ridden by R M Hernandez)- Comes here off of a win in the Empire Distaff for NY-Breds, where she edged out Mightiness at the wire. The two of them were close together at the top of the stretch and ran relatively evenly with one another to the finish in a nine-furlong race like this one. It’s the biggest win of her career up to this point, but leading into that race, she had also hit the board in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign and the Grade 2 Zenyatta. Figures to run well once again.

4- Radio Ruffian (TwinTowersRacing, ridden by M Franco)- Returns to the stakes ranks for the first time since February, when she didn’t beat anyone in the Grade 3 Royal Delta. She’s had her share of graded races over her 20-start career, but since the 2023 Pocahontas, they are not her best race lines. She’s been better in overnights and has hit the board in her last two races, grabbing a nice win at AQU before placing second in a SA open allowance on the same day Boardwalk Authority and Mightiness were going 1-2 in the Empire Distaff. Perhaps, she will eventually break through, but the others in here are more appealing right now.

5- Soliloquy Sunset (Nakamura Stables, ridden by R Bejarano)- Her three-year-old campaign will not go down as being as successful as her juvenile season, but that is just because of how good she was as a two year. In 2025, she has still managed to win two of nine and has hit the board in six of those starts. Unfortunately for the trainer, the KYO and the Acorn were not one those, but she was still fourth. Later this year, she would go on to win the Grade 1 Alabama and managed to finish third in the BC Distaff. She’s still running well, and if all that was not a good enough reason to like her, she also gets a two-pound weight allowance. Must be at her best, but if she is, she should take this.

Prediction: 5-1-3-2
