Bear Head Shows His Good Side In The Station

Station (Grade 3)- $600.000 Purse
KEE- For Three Year Olds
One Mile on the Turf
October 25, 2025

Bear Head was very impressive with the way he won the Secretariat in August, and he certainly seemed destined to finish better than tenth in his next two starts. There were excuses for each of those runs, and close to three months later, Bear Head reminded us all of the Secretariat. With a powerful run in the stretch, Bear Head, who we picked to run second, would go on to win by two lengths and will continue to be one to watch going forward. He is trained by Maxmillion Farm, and this is the second win for him in the Station. But, this one will not be in a three-way dead heat! S X Bridgmohan is now a two-time winner, and it’s his first win since the inaugural Station in 2007. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:32.23, and that’s a new record for the stake. Let’s take a look at it now!

(1/4 Mile- :22.83)- Western Knight is not messing around early, powering out to a two length lead for Our Athletes right from the gate. They are four wide for second, with the other knight, Night Rider Stables’ Late Knight, having a head in front of the other three. Dragon is third on the rail for Nakamura Stables, with Scorched right beside him for Mb Stables. Running on the outside of this group is the Team 7 Illusions- trained Hail Justice. Next in line, we have Red Fox Farms’ Tropical Surge, who is slightly ahead of our eventual winner from Maxmillion Farm, Bear Head, as that one rides the rail. At the back are Have Another Beer (Mb Stables) and Model Citizen (TwinTowersRacing).

(½ Mile- :46.08)- Not much changes over the second quarter of the race, as Western Knight, who was our pick to win, continues to hold a two length advantage. It’s still four wide for the second spot, but now Dragon who is in that position, with Scorched third and Hail Justice fourth. Late Knight is still with them, for now. Bear Head surges ahead of Tropical Surge and draws closer to the foursome in front of him. Then, it’s Have Another Beer, and finally Model Citizen.

(Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Western Knight is still the leader at the top of the turn, but that is in serious jeopardy as the field closes in on him in a rapid manner while running the turn. He has not been passed officially by the time they entered the stretch, but it was very clear that J R Velazquez was not about to have his second straight wire to wire winner after taking the Fayette. Scorched looked to be the first to go by while on the outside while Dragon was about to do the same to his inside. Hail Justice was also closing in, and Bear Head was mounting his charge now. The Maxmillion Farm entry was still fifth but had plenty of room to come on between Western Knight and Scorched. Late Knight was still hanging around the top group, and Have Another Beer began to hit his best stride near the rail. Tropical Surge was lacking response, however. Model Citizen is still at the back, but gaining.

(Finish- 1:32.23)- Bear Head does indeed take the lane to the inside of Scorched, who had inherited the top spot when Western Knight called it a night. With a furlong to go, he was right alongside him, and there was little reason to doubt him. Dragon was running well, but had been passed by Bear Hear in the process, so it seemed like his race would be for second. Approaching the wire, this was in the books for Bear Head, and that three length winner from the Secretariat would now be a two length winner in the Station. Perhaps, he can start to show this consistently, because if he ever can, he can become one of the top horses in this division and will be preparing for the BC at this time next year. Dragon is second, and it’s a dead heat for third between Scorched and Have Another Beer. Rounding it out, it’s Model Citizen, Hail Justice, a gassed Western Knight, Tropical Surge, and Late Knight.

About The Winner- Bear Head, trained by Maxmillion Farm, and ridden to victory by S X Bridgmohan, is a three year old gelding by Indistinguishable and is out of the late Paris In Spring. He was bred by Martyparty in New York as a second quarter two year old, and was acquired by Maxmillion Farm in private sales for $200.000 in June of this year. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his sixth in 15 starts, his fifth stake win and second graded win. His career earnings are now $1,183.000.
