Bernadini Turns a Bad Day Into a Good Day

Oquinn Farm’s four year old bay Bad Days keeps rolling along on his win campaign. Now having won five of his past six starts, this was the first stakes victory in his first ever try, and we should look for more to come.

  • The Brenardini- Purse $100.000
  • Aqueduct Race Track- For Four Years old and Up
  • One Mile and five sixteenth in distance- Main track

While last season of the Bernandini saw winner Relentless have to tackle a muddy surface, this year Bad Days made the best of his late kick down the stretch, and shaved more then five seconds off the event record stopping the clock in a final time of 2:07.69. The time also has set the bar for the Track Record as well for all future competitors at the distance her at AQU. For OQuinn Farm, this is stakes victory number three of the season as another four year old gray by the name of Tallmadge Star has two wins in the books already.

Never really keen at getting in the mix early, Bad Days would be held in check through the clubhouse turn in eighth, allowing outside runners Mount Koya ( Jokerjoes ) and Old School Style ( Nakamura Stables ) to get to the rail and set the early fractions. As the field would enter the far turn, senior runner Wolfmoon Bay ( Night Rider Stables ) was now quickly away by a length and a half, as Bad Days had passed a couple to his inside to now sit with runners in sixth, still some five lengths from the leader.

Wolfmoon Bay continued to control the pace off the turn for home and down the stretch till the eighth pole when he would now only be about a length in front of a late charging Bad Days to his outside, and a determined Having A Blast ( Mb Stables) to his inside. He managed to hang tough till the final sixteenth of a mile to race, when Bad Days would finally snatch the lead away. The brilliant nine year old was still a determined runner, holding off Having A Blast for the runner-up purse.

While Bad Days will certainly continue down the path to future stakes titles, I can guarantee that after this effort that Wolfmoon Bay wont be hanging up the irons anytime soon. Instructions were definitely the key towards his efforts and knowing Raj, he will have him placed perfectly for his next start after a month of so to recover.

While Having A Blast did all he could to try and get to the runner-up spot, he would capture the show purse just a half length shy, but manage to hold off a late charge from Jam Packed ( Team 7 Illusions ) who was making up ground along the rail.
