The Shadwell Turf Mile-GI (P8) [BC]
KEE Race 5 1M- Turf
Purse $1,000.000
Three Year Olds and Up
A full field of fourteen runners are going to line up this weekend at Keeneland to try and get the money in here and they are going to try and earn a free spot in the Breeders Cup Mile. It looks like a very tough race and the defending champion is even coming back to try and go back to back.
1. Far Too Cool (18-7-3-1 $936.510), trained by Night Rider Stables
Right here is the defending champion from last years Shadwell Turf Mile when he won by a length. He obviously is a good horse but he has been winless since his win in this race last year so that worries me that he will not be able to repeat in this race. I don’t see him turning it around unfortunately.
2. Erupt (12-3-2-1 $325.400), trained by D J C Racing Stables
Right here is the first runner coming out of the D J C Racing Stables barn and he is coming off of a win in an allowance at Saratoga which was his first win on the turf. I’m not too positive if he loves the turf because he’s only ran on it twice and one time was on the soft turf but maybe he is ready to go.
3. Compress (32-9-4-5 $3,252.510), trained by Cherrytree Hill Farm
The old classy horse right here and he has been through it all. He’s made a start in the Derby he’s ran in the Breeders Cup Mile twice and he will be making his third start in his career in the Shadwell Turf Mile. He has a third and a fourth in this race and I think this is going to be his year that he wins.
4. Devil Six (16-5-3-2 $718.290), trained by D J C Racing Stables
The second of the three horse entry from D J C Racing Stables is coming into this race off of a twelfth place finish in the Woodbine Mile. He had been running very well before that race and I’m thinking that was just a clunker and he will be able to rebound in this race. He should have a pretty decent shot.
5. Ingrained (19-6-5-3 $1,776.160), trained by Mb Stables
The first of three entries from Mb Stables is coming into this race off of a win in the grade two Baruch Handicap at Saratoga where he won by a neck. If he runs like he did that day I could definitely see him making some noise in this race and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he won this race.
6. Spanish Showboat (53-17-7-8 $4,496.470), trained by Mb Stables
The second of the horse team from Mb Stables and this is what I’m going to say his best shot to win. He’s been around the block more times than you can count and he is coming off of a seventh length win at Kentucky Downs. The only thing that worries me is the big cut back in distance.
7. Nowhere Man (12-5-0-2 $762.620), trained by Mb Stables
And now we finally come to the final entry from the Mb Stables contingent and this is another one he has who has a very good shot to win. He is coming off of a win in the grade one Woodbine Mile which he won by a nose. If he repeats that performance he definitely has a good shot to win.
8. Going Gone (19-6-5-1 $431.920), trained by John Henry
Now this runner will be making his first start for his new trainer John Henry and if he can keep this horse on the same path as his old owner had him on he can have a good shot to win this race. He is coming off of a back to back stakes wins but he will still have to run a very big race to win.
9. The Drifter (13-3-4-1 $279.080), trained by D J C Racing Stables
And now we finally get to the third and final entry from the barn of D J C Racing Stables and this runner is coming out of the grade three Saranac at Saratoga where he ran second. He is a good horse but I’m not sure he is ready for these type of horses and he might be a little bit outclassed.
10. That’s Fazzt (7-4-2-0 $168.620), trained by Jader Stable
Now here is a runner who is coming into this race off back to back wins and one of those wins was the grade two King Edward BC Stakes at Woodbine which he won pretty impressively. He just won a statebred optional claimer and the works are pretty good so I definitely give him a big chance.
11. Mist Maker (11-3-1-2 $1,161.000), trained by Crocker Ggs
Here is a horse who I think can be very dangerous especially after that big win in the grade one Sword Dancer at Saratoga last time. The only think that concerns me is if this mile ddistances too short for his closing style because he will need a perfect trip to have his style help him out so he could win.
12. Swamp Fox (57-13-7-7 $1,917.230), trained by Blushing Meadows
Another one of the old veterans in the race and he is also coming out of the Woodbine Mile where he ended up running eighth by two lengths. He has obviously been around for a long time but I’m thinking he just isn’t good enough to win this race but maybe he will be an upset winner.
13. Apollos Gold (7-2-1-2 $175.240), trained by Team 7 Illusions
Now here is a very lightly raced four year old and he has only made seven starts in his short career. He just ran a very big third in the Woodbine Mile last out and that was a pretty big race from him for sure. If he runs like he did that day don’t ne surprised if he is close to winning at the finish line.
14. Valiant Charge (23-6-3-7 $554.380), trained by Threshold
Like his trainer said this is his second start in this race and it is going to be the second time he has to run from the fourteen post. He ran in this race two years ago and finished eighth after being out in the parking lot and I think unfortunately it is going to be about the same result as it was that day.
Summary
Well this is a very big race and there is a bunch of big time runners that are going to line up in the gates. I think the two biggest players are going to be Compress and Spanish Showboat. I also think Nowhere Man and That’s Fazzt are going to have a big chance in here. Good luck to all in the race.
