Falls City Stakes (Grade 3)- $400.000 Purse
CD- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
One Mile and One Eighth on the Dirt
November 28, 2024
It was some early morning racing at CD this morning, as the 10:00am post time saw a field of four run in the Falls City Stakes. We would have one scratch in the race, and it was the one we picked to win: Two Phils. This moved up Skydancer to be our pick, and the Riggins Racing filly would score a convincing three length victory! The win is the first in the race for Riggins Racing, as well as the jockey, F Geroux. Congratulations to them! The time of the race was 1:48.21, which is a middle of the road such time for this stake, historically. Let’s take a look at it now:
(½ Mile- :47.80)- Last year’s Falls City Stakes winner, Always A Virgin, is the early leader of the race, and the TwinTowersRacing entry will hold a length and a half leader over the second place, Nakamura Stables- trained, Storm Invasion. She has company to her outside, as the eventual winner of the race, Skydancer, is within a length of her. It’s about two more to the trailer, Mo Mentum Farm’s More Interest.
(3/4 Mile- 1:12.26)- Skydancer is not going to wait around to make her move, and cuts into Always A Virgin’s lead over the backstretch. She’s not quite out front yet at this point of the race but will complete the pass for the lead very soon in the turn. Storm Invasion has also gotten closer, but not at the same rate. More Interest is content to watch it all unfold from the back.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- As anticipated, Skydancer takes the lead early in the turn, and quickly puts Always A Virgin away. While we may have seen that coming, I was expecting to see a little more out of Storm Invasion here, but that filly is still third and beginning to pull up alongside Always A Virgin. More Interest had the best seat in the house to view the action and had not gotten involved in it.
(Finish- 1:48.21)- This race was over at the top of stretch unless Skydancer suddenly collapsed. That would not happen at all, as the filly would draw further away and win by an impressive three lengths. After three straight dead heats to recap, it was nice to see a convincing winner. Storm Invasion took a while to get by Always A Virgin, and those two will be second and third. More Interest, dare I say it, showed little interest, today.
About The Winner- Skydancer, trained Riggins Racing and ridden to victory by F Geroux, is a three-year-old filly by Hatchet Job and is out of Anchovy Kid. She was bred in California as a first quarter two-year-old by Riggins Racing, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her seventh in 17 races, her fourth stake win and second graded win. Her career earnings are now $601.160.
