Grade 2 for Fillies & Mares 3yo+
7 Furlongs Dirt
With three of the six entrants in this race coming in from the Ballerina (Grade 1), this race is something of a rematch. The favorite that day, Mistress Made (Mb Stables) finished tenth of eleven, while 20-1 Live For Today (also Mb Stables) finished third, coming from the clouds in the stretch. Alydar’s Silk Houses went off at 8-1 and ended up last in a lackluster performance. These three face off again, along with another three contenders in the Filly & Mares Sprint division.
Here’s the field:
1 Lady Is A Tramp
Owner: Night Mare Racing
Breeder: Maxmillion Farms
Fourth in the Grade 2 Prioress last out, this three-year-old filly hasn’t lived up to her two-year-old promise. She’s always close, but has just one win in five starts this year, that one two starts back in optional claiming company. Still a contender.
2 La Femme Noir
Owner/Breeder: Jerry Garcia Racing
Three wins in six starts this year, one coming in the $65.000 Roxelana two starts back. Her last start was on turf, a fourth place effort in allowance company. Should perform much better back on dirt.
3 Live For Today
Owner/Breeder: Mb Stables
Third in the Ballerina after spending most of the race at the back of the pack. She won the Adoration (Grade 3) in May and scored a 100 SRF at a distance. This will be her shortest start of the year.
4 Mischief Made
Owner/Breeder: Mb Stables
This four-year-old filly’s winning streak that included the Vagrancy Handicap (Grade 3) came to an end in the Ballerina where she went off as the favorite and beat just one of the eleven horses in the field that day. Don’t be surprised to see her back in the winner’s circle after this one.
5 Ocala Express
Owner/Breeder: D J C Racing Stables
With no wins in eight starts, this filly seems a bit outclassed here – except that she hit the board in the Azeri in March and the Distaff Handicap in April (both Grade 2s). Has struggled since then, but has the class to bounce back.
6 Silk Houses
Owner/Breeder: Alydar Stables
With the exception of that dismal performance in the Ballerina last out, Silk Houses has had an outstanding year. Today she sits at #7 on the BC Filly & Mare Turf Sprint points list, thanks in large part to a win in the Distaff Handicap (Grade 2). Looking for redemption here and I think she just might get it.
