The Bold Ruler – GIII
10/31/20
BEL Race 4 7F – Dirt
Purse $100.000 Three Year Olds and Up
Graded stakes action on this fine weekend and it is the weekend before the Breeders Cup. Here we will have eleven sprinters lining up in the gate for a crack at the grade three Bold Ruler. Let’s take a look at the field.
1. Glorious (41-8-9-6 $1291.780), trained by Spankys Barn
First up in the field here and this runner is coming into this race off of a very good third in the Kelso Handicap. I think he may like the seven furlongs more than the mile and I think he could have a good shot in here.
2. Harleys Hope (33-7-4-5 $615.840), trained by TwinTowers Racing
Next up here we have a graded stakes winner on the year. Since that win at Oaklawn in April he has not been able to find the winners circle since. Going to have to run a big race in here to have any shot at winning this one.
3. Wrecking Havoc (20-6-2-5 $263.860), trained by John Henry
A stakes winner on the year here and he is a nose shy of also being a grade one winner this year. His last two races were not as good but if he returns to that earlier form he will be awfully tough in here.
4. Akkadian (23-8-5-4 $505.410), trained by Night Rider Stables
Second race in a row this horse will be running for a different trainer. He ran third in his last start after being claimed and was then sold a few days after that race. He could have a shot in if he runs like his last start.
5. Stand In Line (10-5-3-0 $153.170), trained by Angelos Stable
Runner up in his last start which was the grade two Vosburgh right over this same track. He is on the improve right now and I think he will be a tough horse to beat in this race.
6. Gifted Man (12-4-1-1 $192.600), trained by Spankys Barn
Second runner for this barn here and he is the lesser of the two runners it would seem. He does have a grade three win on the year so he does have an outside chance if he returns to this years earlier races.
7. Sinissippi Star (16-3-6-1 $211.440), trained by D J C Racing Stables
Scratched
8. Royal Eclipse (31-7-3-9 $584.080), trained by Chili King Stables
Maybe not the horse that he used to be but he has still got some fuel left in the tank. He won a starter allowance in his last race but this is a whole lot tougher spot. Going to have to turn back the clock to win this race.
9. Cucamonga (21-7-4-1 $600.880), trained by Smokey Stover
Next up we have another graded stakes winner on the year and he has been running in some pretty tough races all year. I think he has a decent shot at running a big race in this field.
10. Strategic Edge (18-5-5-0 $225.190), trained by Maletto
Stakes winner on the year also right here but that stakes win was going long on the turf two races back at Belterra. Not sure if he likes the dirt as much so not seeing this horse do much in here.
11. Spanish Asset (10-4-3-0 $144.400), trained by First Street Stables
Now here is a horse who has ran every one of races over the grass in his career. He has been pretty consistent for most of his races but with the surface change and against this caliber of runners I’d be surprised if he won.
12. Kiss The Snake (35-10-5-6 $1563.580), trained by Nakamura Stables
Final horse in the field and one of the top horses based on class at least. He is an old hard knocking sprinter who seems to bring his best almost every time he runs. If he can work out a trip from this post he will have a shot to win.
Summary
Pretty solid field here with some proven sprinters and a couple trying to make a name for themselves. My top choice is Cucamonga with Kiss The Snake right after that. Good luck to all in the field.
