Bold Ruler Grade 3
AQU – 6 furlongs – Dirt
For Three Year Olds And Upward
There are several in this field that look like they’re ready to take a step up. Let’s look at the field.
1 Electric (Angelos Stable) Four-year-old gelding has been knocking around allowance company since finishing second in the MD Sprint (Grade 3) in May and having some success. Won his last start at AQU in an optional claimer. One to contend with as he makes his return to graded company.
2 Baba Booey (Hee Haw Farms) Another one that’s been hanging out in the allowance ranks. And another one coming in off a win, this time in CA-bred company at DMR. Seems to be on the improve, but maybe not enough to compete here.
3 Ice Wall (Mb Stables) Seven-year-old gelding still has what it takes to get to the winner’s circle. He’s won his last three in allowance and high-level claiming company but didn’t fare well in his last graded start back in October. Wouldn’t count him out but he’ll need a big effort to win here.
4 Ukrainian Victory (Gdp Inc) Last win came in July at SAR in top level allowance company. Has tried graded company in both of his last two starts, finishing off the board in the Grade 1 Forego, then coming back to finish third in the Grade 2 SA Sprint Championship. Could be there at the wire.
5 Sickomode (Maxmillion Farm) Was a maiden until his last start. Took him ten tries to get there, but he won at AQU in MSW company. No stranger to graded level though, with a fourth in the Fool Handicap (Grade 3) in March. This one is worth a look, but also a big question mark.
6 Tormented (Whitewater Stables) Never off the board this year in five starts, including a third-place finish last out in the Grade 3 Vigil Stakes at WO. Another one that could be in the mix.
7 Gypsy King (Oval Express Farms) Only one try at graded level for this four-year-old gelding, and that came in the LA Futurity (Grade 2) as a two-year-old when he finished eleventh. Won the $75.000 Roar last May. Been kind of up and down in allowance company. Will need to bring his A game against these.
8 Public Information (D J C Racing Stables) Won the $50.000 Reed Memorial last out in NY-bred company. In June he finished second by a nose in the Grade 1 Stephens. Looks like this could be a good spot for this three-year-old to get his first graded win. The competition won’t make it easy for him though.
9 Scott The Cherokee (TwinTowersRacing) Has a habit of finishing third in claiming company. Finished seventh in the KD Turf Sprint (Grade 2) last out. Looks a bit outclassed in this bunch.
10 El Gran du Light (Nakamura Stables) Strong performances since March, with three wins, one coming in the Hall Memorial Stakes. Only misstep came last out in the Vigil Stakes (Grade 3) where he finished eleventh and last. Will need to step it up to get a part of the purse here.
