Breeders Stakes Throws Up a Few Questions

Breeders Stakes
WO   Race #3   1 1/2m   Turf   Stake
Purse $400.000  For Three Year Olds Foaled In Canada.

1 Laffin Parrot, trained by Mo Mentum Farm
This gelding proved in some way that his win in the Queens Plate wasnt a HRP fluke by running a sound second in the Prince Of Wales last time out on fast ground. Today he takes another step in a different direction as he takes on turf for the first time since his 26 length beating on the surface when he debuted as a two year old. On dirt i like his chances on turf, well i am not so sure but it will be very interesting to see how he goes today.

2 Stardog Champion, trained by Chili King Stables
His only two wins have come on a wet surface so that may see him with his best chance today. He has definitely improved in the past few months but whether he has improved enough remains to be seen.

3 Max Million, trained by Mamillion Farms
He has been very consistent in overnights winning a big purse allowance at SAR last time by a gritty half length. I am not worried about his lack of stakes experience as we all know the class system doesnt really apply at HRP and allowance form pretty much equates to stakes form and a glance at his last work out provides some evidence that he has found almost a second in the past few months over this trip. This could easily be the dark horse in the race.

4 One Direction, trained by Estero Farms
Lightly raced with only six efforts he has proved very good in his short career winning three and being placed at grade three level. He was pretty impressive in winning the Toronto Cup Stakes last time and his works are up there with the best so he should be in at the sharp end today.

5 Hard Candy, trained by Mb Stables
One of three entries from the massive stable his only win was a maiden but like so many of the 50th string three year olds in the stable he looks and works like he could get into this race. That win came after being gelded and his works since have been pretty strong so i guess its just a matter of comparing him with the other stable runners and picking which one is the main entry.

6 Throwing Hands, trained by Mb Stables
Third in the FL Derby he hasnt actually won a race since his maiden win in February but has placed against the top class on dirt. He was just behind Laffin Parrot in the Prince Of Wales Stakes when third last time out and the same question about surface applies to him as he has never attempted the grass in race. His works are pretty good going under the 58 second for 5 furlongs on this surface so he should be good enough to get into the action.

7 Ingrained, trained by Mb Stables
He has been all over the place as far as trips go but moved from a five furlong sprint in June to take the mile and an eighth Kent Stakes in July suggesting he is better over a longer trip. His PRX work on the 4th August put him right in the mix and with 9 races and 9 pay checks his consistency will certainly help.

8 Decibel, trained by Threshold
No horse has got as close to Clockwork Chai recently as this one did in the BEL Derby closing down the wonder horse to lose by just a nose in the end. The downer for his trainer will be that he has been dumped out in the cheap seats and has to try and pick his way through the tactics of Mb Stables and i suspect he may be a late scratching.

SUMMARY
Decibels run in the BEL Derby was superb and puts him head and shoulders above these but a wide draw will be tough to overcome against some useful rivals. Max Million looks to be an improver and as usual any of the Mb Stables entries could win so this is a tough race to call and may just come down to the pace of the race and a little luck.
