The Buena Vista Stakes – GII
SA Race 6 1M – Turf
Purse $200.000
Four Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares
A field of seven filly and mares turf runners are going to line up for this year’s edition of the Buena Vista Stakes. It is not a very big field of runners but there is some talent and quality in this race for sure. An interesting fact is that trainer Crocker Ggs will be going for a repeat win in the race. Let’s take a look at the field.
1. Sillian (10-5-2-1 $116.880), trained by D J C Racing Stables
Right here is the first runner that we come across in the field and she is coming into this race off of a second place finish in a stakes race right over this same track and distance in December. This is a step up in class and she is going to need to run a very big race to win it.
2. Moonlight Bliss (12-5-1-3 $383.580), trained by Fractious
And now to this filly right here is a pretty good filly for sure. She is a graded stakes winner over this same course and distance when she won the grade two Goldikova last November. She ran second in the grade three Las Cinegas last out and I think she will like this mile distance better than the six and half.
3. On The Square (14-6-1-2 $405.880), trained by Crocker Ggs
Well here we have another graded stakes winner in the field and this filly is actually coming off of a graded stakes win in last start. She won the grade three Red Carpet At Del Mar last out in wire to wire fashion. She likes to go to the lead so a slow pace up front will benefit her a lot.
4. Broken Chat (13-5-2-1 $704.000), trained by Estero Farms
And now onto the runner that is breaking from the smack dab middle of the gate here. This filly is a grade one winner and she won the grade one Diana last year. She is coming into this race off of a fourth place finish in the grade one American Oaks. She is the class of this field I think and should be very tough.
5. Windian (12-4-3-1 $328.160), trained by Team 7 Illusions
Here is the other speed horse in the field right here. She usually like to go to the front in her races and it almost got her home in front last out. She ran second in the grade three Marshua River on a soft turf course at Gulfstream. She will definitely need to slow the pace down to have a chance.
6. Wbf No Regrets (14-6-2-0 $146.260), trained by TwinTowers Racing
Now this filly right here is also coming out of the grade three Marshua River where she ran fifth that day. She ran a not so great race that day and I’m not sure she liked the soft turf that much. She looks just a little bit outclassed in this race to me but maybe she will run a big race and surprise me.
7. Twinny (13-6-2-3 $258.490), trained by Maxmillion Farm
This runner right here is the one to watch out for if there is a pace meltdown up top. She likes to close from way back and she used that style to win her last race which was the SSM F/M Turf Sprint here on the downhill turf course. She will need a very quick pace to make some noise late.
Summary
A pretty nice field has assembled for this race if you ask me. It is a pretty quality field and I honestly think any of the seven has a chance to win. My top pick is going to be Broken Chat out of the Estero Farms barn because she is the class of the field. Good luck to all in the race.
