GII – The Dandy
$600.000 Graded Stake 1 1/8 Mile on Dirt For Three & Up
A summer time stable at SAR where everyone dresses up and heads to the track for a beautiful afternoon of racing is Dandy day. This years version of the Dandy featured ten three year olds all ready to prove they belong on the big stage. The race brought together a great collection of horses ready to do battle.
The betting public made Niner Forty Niner the post time favorite. He finished fourth in the KYD and second in the PRK warranting his favorite status in the race. Unfortunately for him he never really got going in the race. He was near the back early on and as they turned for home faded to last and could never find that kick he has showed in past races.
As they left the gate and battled their way into the first turn Slither would push his way to the front of the pack as they exited that first turn. Just to the inside of him in the gate Workingmanshero would sit a length off behind the lead and Bronx Bomber held his rail position in third. Sitting just off that was The Right Stuff with a pack of Banshee Star, Niner Forty Niner, La Lune Rain and Que Cosa in a tightly grouped pack a few lengths back of that.
As they hit the top of the stretch Bronx Bomber started to make his move and with a furlong left ate up the lead of Workingmanshero and pulled away with his last few strides. Banshee Star was a fast closing second while Workingmanshero fell back to third. Picking up the last pay check was La Lune Rain and in behind him was Que Cosa, Slither, The Right Stuff and Niner Forty Niner.
Congratulations to Bronx Bomber and Aer Stables on the impressive victory!
