Broomsticks Looks Good for Sheepshead Bay

The Sheepshead Bay – Grade II
BEL   Race #4   1 3/8m   InTurf   Graded Stake
Purse $200.000  For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward.

1 Love Me Do, trained by Maverick Racing
This filly looked like she was heading for the top when she ran up a five timer as a two year old
culminating with a win in the Grade three Tempted and a $200.000 sale. She has two races under her new
owner both good runs in top company but when she failed to qualify for last years KYO she was sold
again this time for $250.000 to her current owner. A brilliant third in the grade one Mother Goose and
a close second in the CCA Oaks saw her near the top of her generation but after disappointing in the
Alabama she dropped down in grade to take two ungraded stakes before and end of season effort in the
La Brea Stakes where she ran a nice fourth. She has been eased into this season with two runs in
overnight company winning the last over a sprint trip. I like the fact that she returns to turf today
a surface she is unbeaten on and i fully expect a big run.

2 Volare, trained by Axeman
A high class mare who bounced right back to her best last time out in the Grade three Orchid. The
winner of this race in 2014 she loves the track and a good test of stamina so should once again be
in her element. At six she may be feeling her legs a little but she has every chance of getting a
second win in this race today.

3 Broomsticks Copy, trained by Drabfantasy
As fillies go this is one of the best. The winner of the grade one First Lady before a famous victory
in the BC Fillies and Mares Turf she is the sort of filly everyone would love to own. She reappeared
this year with a win in the Endeavour and then ran a cracker in the grade one Wiley to be second to
Attraction. This trip is right up her street and she should be good enough to get closer to the $3000
mark in prize money today.

4 Wild Weather, trained by Downwind Stables
A fairly lightly raced five year old she has enough ability to make her mark in this tough field. Sold
for just $10 she ran well for a long way in the grade two Fox, ending up fourth. Her works aren’t bad and
whilst she will be an outsider she is not without a chance.

5 T S Bay, trained by D J C Racing Stables
Looks a little outclassed in a good field but that probably equates to an easy win in HRP land ! A winner
of four she has never met this class and will be hard pushed not to finish last.

SUMMARY

It looks down to the top three here with the obvious choice being Broomsticks Copy. Volare will certainly
keep her honest and Love Me Do is not out of it so a good race should be on the cards.
