CA-Bred Sophomore Fillies Do Battle for Nice Purse in Bison City Stakes at WO

Up to WO we go for the Bison City Stakes and a nice purse for the CA-bred sophomore fillies.  The mile and a sixteenth distance seems to fit most of these and I put Sensual Eruption on top today.  She won at this distance taking the IND Oaks (GIII) and with no penalty for the graded win, this looks like a spot where she can put some more cash in the bank.  Another with some serious class and a big shot at getting the win is Lady Sammyantha.  A pair of wins prior to that eighth in the Test (GI), and even the last out race, she was only four lengths back in a very tough group.  Let’s go with this dynamic duo, although you can certainly make a case for a few others.

Two wins and two runner-up efforts from seven seasonal efforts, so she’s usually around when they hand out checks.  No reason to think any different here as the rail should help her cause, especially if she shows some of her speed today.  If she runs back to her current form, she should be in the picture.

   Sensual Eruption    Smokey Stover    Boulanger G   123   6/5

Comes in off of a pair of nice graded efforts where she won the IND Oaks (GIII) then tired a bit late to be fifth in the Alabama (GI) and she had the lead in quite a bit of that race.  Another like that and I think she ends-up in the winners circle today.  She has three seasonal wins, so you know she has a nose for the wire.

She was seventh in her only stakes effort, but that was in the Selene (GIII) which was a tough race.  That was over this surface, and it was damp that day, and she came back to be the runner-up (DH) in a DMR OptAlw race.  She will need her best to be in the mix here.

Things were looking up after a third in the Santa Ynez (GII) and a win in the Santa Ysabel (GII) but she has a trio of up-the-track finishes, all in graded races.  They’ve tried two-turns, sprints… she needs to wake up if she’s going to compete with this group, but her best would certainly make her tough.

Nice win over this track vs similar in the Fury Stakes, then took the Chicago (GIII) only to run eighth in the Test (GI) in her most recent.  This shouldn’t be as salty as that last out bunch, so give her a big look today as I’d expect her to be right in the thick of it when they hit the finish line.

Only a maiden win and she was fourth beat seven over this surface last out while facing similar.  I’d give her an outside shot to get a minor check here today, but she will need her best to get that done.
