Can a maiden win The Sweetest Chant?

The Sweetest Chant – Grade III
GP   Race #5   1m   InTurf   Graded Stake
Purse $100.000  For Fillies Three Years Old.

1 Known To Laff, trained by Nakamura Stables
Won 3 from 6 as a two year old with the last of those being in the listed Pike Place Dancer which she won by a comfortable length.
After a debut win she was in the wilderness in her next three but found her legs when switched to the turf going two from two.
Her works are strong and she cleary loves the grass and her stalking style will be suited to the inside gate. She has every chance
of making it three in a row but the lack of a run since the 1st November has to be a worry.

2 Narly Kruz, trained by Brave
The class horse of the race, she carries a penalty for a graded stakes win in the Durante at the end of a super two year old
season. Prior to that win she had finished second in the BC Juvenile Turf and the Natalma, form which looks head and shoulders
over todays rivals. Everything is in her favour today except the two pound penalty but you have to think that couldnt be enough
to get her beaten today.

3 Bake The Donut, trained by Night Rider Stables
She has similar form to Known To Laff with some good efforts resulting in a smaller listed race. The advantage she has over some of
them today is fitness as she took the Ginger Brew Stakes at the beginning of this year which will make her fully wound up for an
effort today. Her works are on a par with her rivals so she wont be far away on that score and there is no reason she wont run well
today.

4 Fire Plug, trained by Paradise Stable
Followed up a debut maiden win with some good efforts in overnights but failed in her last start in the Durante Stakes finishing a distant third
The soft ground was probably against her that day but i dont see enough improvement in her works to give her a winning chance today.

5 Captain Caveman, Downwind Stable
Another who is right in the frey she could not follow up a debut maiden win but ran fairly in good company and if she has strengthened
could be a force this season. Her works are pretty good but i would put her a tick behind a few of these and would need to watch her today
to get an idea where her season will be going.

6 Rag Doll Rogue, trained by EasyMoney Stables
Behind Bake The Donut in The Ginger Brew on seasonal debut that was her first turf effort after a campaign as a juvenile on the dirt.
That wasnt a bad effort but i wonder if she isnt a true turf filly as her dirt works and races have been pretty good. I would need
to see her on the surface again today before holding any confidence in her ability on grass.

7 Dragonville, trained by Drabfantasy
Still a maiden but oh boy what a maiden! A close third on debut in the Glorious Song Stakes she then went on to be a brilliant and close
third in the grade three Dania Beach. This mile will be perfect for her as demonstrated by a lightening work a couple of weeks ago and
it would be a brave man that would say a maiden cannot win this race.

8 Taking Liberties, trained by Gdp Inc
An unbeaten filly with two from two she faces her first test today in black type company. Both her wins have been Ok but she was not
in stellar company so the only form line we can use is her works and they have been very good. She will be in the first four for sure it is
just a matter of how she copes with an awkward draw and a big raise in class.

9 Viking Amy, trained by Delta Farms
Two easy wins at overnight level at the end of the year suggest this flly is ready to take the step up in class. Solid works back up her
improving form but a wide draw may prove to hard to beat today.

10 Congratulations, trained by Blushing Meadows
Two very nice wins after a sound debut give this filly every right to run well but a dissapointing work last time out on the track and
the car park draw may be too much for her. The race will do her a power of good though and i will be watching her carefully.

SUMMARY

This is a much better race than bare form suggests. Looking at just the race facts you would say twenty pounds couldnt stop Narley Kruz from
winning this but there are a few improving fillies in this race whi have been working very well so it may not be as clear cut as some think.
I still think Narly Kruz should just about win but i like Dragonville and Taking Liberties to make it very tough for her.
