Dominguez Memorial Handicap
SUN Race #6 1 1/16m Dirt Stake
Purse $100.000 For Four Year Olds And Upward Foaled In NM.
1 Don Dada Night Rider Stables Purcell K 118 —
Yet to really make his mark over a longer trip he is a grade three winner over the sprint trip and gets in light thanks to his lack of routing form. The trip very often means very little at HRP so he does look the outstanding horse on form, and I can see him going to the front and being very hard to peg back if he gets a couple clear from the inside gate.
2 Essential Blazin D Tohill K S 117 —
Pretty average form but he has been very consistent and gets in with a light weight and a decent draw and holds no fears around this trip. I think the class factor is a bit lacking, but these handicaps often go to light weights who don’t do so well in stakes races.
3 Roswell Flash High Voltage Fuentes M T Jr 117 —
Very consistent in this sort of race he shows plenty of pace and has placed at this level in routes but has seemed slightly better over a shorter trip. A low weight and consistency make him a decent chance especially as he has nabbed one of the top jocks on the track.
4 Dragon The Line Threshold Fuentes L A 117 —
Won a $5.000 claimer at this track around this time last year but there has been some improvement in both his works and form since and he is starting to look like he could win at this level.
5 Cowboys Are King T Boy Racing Juarez A J Jr 121 —
Clear top weight he is a highly consistent sort at this level and deserves his impost. The wide draw is a bit of a kick in the teeth but with five runners it shouldn’t be too bad. On levels he would be favorite, so you have to hope he is 3Lbs or more better than the rest.
SUMMARY
Cowboys Are King certainly has the sort of form to win this, but I think the sprinter Don Dada has got in here with a good weight and may just be too hard to catch. There isn’t much between then though and Dragon The Line could continue his recent improvement of fit enough.
