     2    SUN           Copper Top Futurity

         $130.000     2yo Foaled in NM      4 1/2 Dirt      120 pounds

2yo races outside of the maiden ranks are hard to come by, but we get a field of five NM-breds ready to go four and a half furlongs with a nice $130.000 purse.  The Copper Top Futurity is another chance for me to show my incompetence as I’m never good at these (or any other race for that matter).  I’m guessing we get a heavy favorite in this one as Smoke Two Joints looks ready to pick up his second win in as many starts.  He put the mojo on a group of maidens at SA and looks fast enough to get the job done here.  Let’s go to the rail and put Charmer in the second spot. Get got the job done in NoCal and could be a horse to watch.  I’ll give Newton a shot as well, coming in from a first-out win at CT.  

Here’s The Field –    

Got the job done at first asking taking down maidens at GG, getting home by two in quick time and winning by two.  I wouldn’t mark his works as incredible, but solid and obviously he runs well when the money is on the line. 

Second vs. maidens at TP, running at today’s distance, and he beaten three lengths in that first start.  Again, solid works, but nothing to write home about, and he also showed that he has interest when running for money. 

Looked good scoring by two on the SA oval, and he certainly seems to be a horse that is going places.  Scooted home by two in that race in pretty quick time, works indicate that he certainly has talent, and I look for him to get the job done here as well. 

First time starter and they go for the gusto, taking on stakes company in his first start.  His works do not indicate that he’s a monster, so I’ll look at some of the others in this one. 

Took maidens to task winning at CT by a length as the favorite.  Nice work at WO coming into this one and he looks like a real runner.  Give him a chance if things work in his direction.
