1 Public Information D J C Racing Stables Moore R L 124 —
A solid sprinter/miler, he gets a nice gate here to stalk the lead. He doesn’t win too often, but always gives a good account and he is working and running well enough to be a top four chance.
2 Last Round Fractious Velazquez J R 118 —
Gets the 3Lb weight allowance and is working pretty much the same as everything else so must be given a chance despite the fact that the three’s don’t get it as easy as they used to. Drawn perfectly, he has won black type on fast and slow ground and looks a natural sprinting type in his eleven starts so far. The trainer has exploded into the big time this year, and this may be yet another big race winner.
3 General Obvious Lanfranco Stable Saez L 124 —
Spent most of his formative years in claimers and changed hands among the best trainers in the game before arriving at Lanfranco Stables via another claimer at the start of the year. They are attempting to do what the best in the game didn’t and that’s pick up some black type which looks a big ask on form, but his works have been saying for some time that he could be up to it. Went to the Fool Handicap in his only start for the new trainer and ran OK back in fifth but will need to improve on that.
4 Audioslave Alydar Stables Wilson E J 124 —
It is always great to see these older horses and they don’t get any older than this one when it comes to winning graded stakes. Overcame a wide draw to win the Cartier last time and is working as well as ever so just maybe we could be seeing another remarkable performance from the pensioner who still thinks he is four.
5 Lord Punchline Avenue Z Franco M 124 —
Has had the look of a five-year-old improver in his three starts this year and we all know how good they can be. The drawback may be his running style especially from this mid pack draw but if he can lay up with these early on, he is sure to be closing off at the end.
6 Shoulders Locked And Loaded Davis D 124 —
A little disappointing for his previous owner but did well after a claim to win the McKenney Handicap in his only start for the new trainer who is starting to make their mark among the training ranks. Another five-year-old, so may have found some of the five-year-old fairy dust and whilst he doesn’t look the main chance on form, he has every right to run well.
7 High Time Maxmillion Farm Bridgmohan S X 124 —
A nice sprinter he was hugely impressive in the wet last time when taking the Aristides BC by a very easy three lengths. Whilst he looked very happy on the wet track that day, he had won the Pelican before that on a dry track, so I don’t think he is a one trick pony. A leading chance on form and a possible winner if the race engine allows him to run his race from the wide draw.
8 Ice Cream Glitter TwinTowersRacing Geroux F 124 —
Ran nicely in the General George back in February but hasn’t kicked on from that in his last two starts. Back to sprinting today could be what he needs, and he may use the wide gate speed push to go to the front from the off which could be his best chance.
9 Personal Ruler Mo Mentum Farm Lopez P 124 —
Another that comes back to sprinting after a while running longer trips, I do think he has a chance here, but he could end up being dumped out the back from this draw and if that happens his chance has gone. He has raced on the pace before so maybe a click on the gaming buttons may give him his best chance.
SUMMARY
A very tight race here where a good case can be made for all nine runners. As usual the race pattern and race engine may be the deciding factor. Last Round has the weight advantage, and the draw so could be a good choice, but I must admit my heart will be cheering for Audioslave.
