Can the Two-Year-Old Tufers Get in on the KYD Act?

The Remsen – Grade II [KYD]
AQU   Race #4   1 1/8m   InDirt   Graded Stake
Purse $250.000  For Two Year Olds.

1 Siberian Prince, trained by Sir Daniel Martin
The winner of the BC Juvenile Turf he is a very interesting entry here as he attempts only his second race on dirt. He was pretty game in the BC and apart from a blip on soft ground he has some very nice turf form it will just be how that translates to the change of surface today. One thing is for sure the stables two year olds are flying at the moment and he has worked well enough on the dirt to suggest he will be a player here.

2 Psychotic Ruler, trained by D J C Racing Stables
The winner of the Sanford and third in the Hopeful he had an impossible draw in the BC juvenile and despite showing pace to stalk for long way did what most of the wide speed does and weakened down the stretch. I guess the trip is still the question mark as his best form is over sprint distances but he worked well enough over a mile to be given another chance in this race. A good draw and an in form jockey make him a decent hope.

3 Slip Away, trained by TwinTowers Racing
Third behind Siberian Prince in the Juvenile Turf so another who has all of his best form on turf and attempts the change of surface today. He was flying at the finish of the BC race just as he did in the Summer Stakes when he best the BC winner impressively so you would have to give him a similar chance to Sir Dans horse. A good work of 1.10 and 3 for the dirt six suggests he can run a big race and get into the KYD picture.

4 Dastardly Havoc, trained by Mb Stables
Unlike a few of the others he has good dirt form and is proven at the trip. Add that to a 1.36 and 3 mile work and the champion trainer and you have a very likely candidate for the win. Beaten less than a length when fourth in the Front Runner when still a maiden he strolled home to get a win last time in maiden company and looked even better for a gelding operation after the Front Runner. Works suggest he is winning material.

5 Regret Nothing, Estero Farms
Yet another turfer taking on the dirt he was impressive in taking out the Bourbon but made no real show from a tough draw in the BC Juvenile Turf. Two super dirt works suggest he may be even better on the dirt so he could easily be the dark horse of the field.

6 Chipotle, trained by Mb Stables
A fair sort but his works and form dont look up to it today. I have a feeling he may be used to force the pace here.

7 Motor City, trained by First Class Stable
A close second in the Nashua last time he is one that is proven on the surface and over the trip. He only has a half length to find on Nowhere Man and is working well enough to get into the finish.

8 Nowhere Man, trained by Smokey Stover
Raced on the pace to take the Nashua which may be an advantage as e has a tough draw today. Another who is working the new benchmark time for two year olds of 1.36 and 3 for the dirt mile he is an un tapped sort who may spring a surprise.

9 Along For The Ride, trained by Fractious
Got stuck in the BC Juvenile ending up a poor twelfth his form prior to that run puts him right in this race. Beaten just a neck in the Front Runner and the DMR Futurity he has more than paid back the $15.000 he was bought for and if he can get a clear run he may be a factor in this tight looking contest.

10 Mist Maker, trained by Crocker Cgs
He was pretty impressive on easy ground last time taking out the Coronation Futurity from a wide draw so as long as he is allowed to go back again today this wide draw shouldnt be a problem. His works are solid but we dont have much to go on as far as his race form goes so he may well be one to watch for today.

11 Flying Pegasus, trained by Nakamura Stables
He wll have to live up to his name from this draw today as his form and his works suggest it will be hard enough without being drawn in the car park.

SUMMARY
This is a good race with plenty of question marks and intrigue. 1.36 and 3 seems to be the mark for routing two year olds at the moment and a few of these have proven that they are in that ball park. I rather like the turfers in this race with maybe Regret Nothing being the best of them. Dastardly Havoc and Nowhere Man have the work times and missed the BC so will have an advantage there and could easily win and i rather like Mist Maker and Slip Away too. A race for watching with a view to future KYD winners rather than putting any money on.
