13 GP The Fountain Of Youth Stakes (GII) [KYD]
$415.000 11/16thMile Dirt 3yo 122lbs
Like every weekend for a while, we have a ton of TC Trail races to cover and it’s a nice group set to go a mile and a sixteenth in The Fountain Of Youth Stakes (GII), on the main oval here in SoFla. This is a race with a history of producing some real classy types, so this should be a fantastic race.
I’ve landed on Tropical Surge as my top selection, and doesn’t he fit the SoFla motif? Love that name for this one… and love his current form even more! Three wins from four starts, taking both the Mucho Macho Man and Holy Bull (GIII) over this surface. I think he keeps the happy days going and gets another big win today.
Everyone wants to be part of the TC time, so we see nice horses changing hands and our second choice fits the bill. Point Given won the DMR Futurity (GI) and has been on the board in the Breeders Futurity (GI) and the BC Juv (GI) and probably needed that first race for the new barn, The Southwest, where he closed fast to be fifth, only a length back. I think the barn learned a lot, this gelding got a race under his belt, and he could be trouble.
We are talking TC horses, so let’s go to the Big Barn and put Extreme Jet on our tickets. They dropped a pretty penny to put this one in the shedrow, and he’s been tough in both starts since moving over, taking the Remson (GII) to close out his 2yo season, then a nice closing third in the Southwest (GIII), which seems to put him right in the middle of things… maybe in front of all these things.
This is a race that always produces great 3yo’s… so who rises to the occasion and gets the job done?
