CC Tiara ($150.000 Purse)
CD- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old And Upward
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Turf
November 16, 2024
Nine horses will be taking part in Saturday’s CC Tiara, which is for female horses on the turf, going a little more than a mile. To be eligible for this race, a horse had to have started for a claiming price of $25.000 or less since the beginning of last year. It’s winner in 2023 was Upon A Time, for Spb Racing. The filly continued to run well for a while afterwards but began to slow down and has since been retired. Here’s a look at our participants this year:
1- Spoon Flip (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by F Geroux)- Picked up by the trainer for $25.000 at the end of February, and has hit the board in four out of six starts since, although only one of those is a win. Comes here off a third-place effort in the $150.000 Athenia at AQU last month. Ran for an eligible claiming tag in June 2023.
2- Hype (Mb Stables, ridden by A Beschizza)- A lightly raced four-year-old that has only made five career starts. After her debut, she has two wins and two places, so maybe we should be seeing her out there more often. In March, she was second in a $15.000 claimer at HOU, which is the last time she has run on the dirt.
3- Yesterdays Blank (Blazin D, ridden by T Gaffalione)- At the start of August, this filly picked up her second career win in a $20.000 claimer at SAR at six furlongs on the dirt. She didn’t show much last time out, which was also on the main track but has been better on the turf. Ran here back in June and was third in a $50.000 claimer.
4- Feral Mystic (Asgar, ridden by C Landeros)- This mare has had a hard time finding winning circle, doing so only once in 25 starts, but she has hit the board in 14 races. In her last race, she was second by two lengths in an open allowance. An open allowance, at MNR, and not for WV-Breds. Would’ve at least wanted to see a win there.
5- Zak Snack (Team 7 Illusions, ridden by G Corrales)- Makes her sixth career start here in the CC Tiara and looks to pick up her third straight win. We haven’t seen her since August, though, when she went wire to wire at ELP. The talent is there, and certainly this is another we should be seeing more often.
6- Lots Of Punch Lines (Alydar Stables, ridden by R Santana Jr)- Another lightly raced filly, this one making just her fifth start. The previous four came with Jive Inc, where one race was a win. Alydar Stables picked the five-year-old mare up for a $22.500 claiming price last September and will be running her for the first time here.
7- Right Twizt (Asgar, ridden by R A Vazquez)- Another Asgar runner in here that simply has not been able to win. Right Twizt is 1-for-21 in her career, though like Feral Mystic, she has been able to hit the board in many races. That includes her last start, where she was third in an optional claimer at FE.
8- Hashtag Selfie (The Sidley Stud, ridden by Mar Garcia)- This filly has past through several barns during her career, and arrived with The Sidley Stud in May for a $15.000 claiming price. The trainer moved her into the ungraded ranks afterwards for three starts, with one close call in MTH. However, the last race, the Miss Southern OH Stakes at BTP, was a disaster.
9- Raised Her Right (Mb Stables, ridden by R Bejarano)- Mb Stables added this filly to his army in November last year for a $20.000 claiming price, and the filly has won twice in seven starts. This includes a run of hit and miss results in TX-bred stakes early this year, and a win here three weeks ago in an optional claimer.
