Centerpiece is Game in Alysheba

Alysheba – Grade II
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $400.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st Centerpiece Mb Stables Velazquez J R

This horse so often the bridesmaid showed all his gameness and class today to grind out a brilliant neck win against a very useful field. I thought he was a shoe in for the SA Handicap last time but the track was probably a bit fast for him that day and on todays off track he was always going to find a length or two. He will go on now to represent the older horses against the three’s and they wont find it easy to put him away.

2nd State Police Smokey Stover Bejarano R

He beat Centerpiece in the Pegasus World Cup on an off track at the start of the year but missed that extra sixteenth of a mile today and came off second best in the end. Like the winner he will represent the olders against the three’s going forward and on this sort of track he will be tough.

3rd Banshee Star Joseph Racing Franco M

This horse liked the wet on the turf and he showed he likes it on the dirt too here with a solid third from a difficult gate. There looks to be plenty of miles left on his clock and his trainer will love having the turf option as the season progresses.

4th Shootfromthehip Nakamura Stables Talamo J

The 2017 KYD winner showed all his old zest finishing strongly to take fourth. He may not be quite as good as he was but this effort shows he retains all his class and i am pretty sure there’s another big race in him.
