Three Year Olds And Up
An ultra competitive field assembled here on the downhill turf course which includes last year’s BC Turf Sprint winner and the very consistent runner Champion Farley. Others will look to make a jump and try to beat the top pair but they look very tough to beat if they bring their A game in here. Let’s look at the field.
1. Freak Storm (21-4-2-4 $314.760), trained by Mo Mentum Farm
A runner in last year’s BC Turf Sprint where he finished fifth shows he can be a top turf sprinter on his best day but he’s yet to find the winners circle since last October. He’s a graded stakes winner and has competed with the best turf sprinters in the game but will have to run a very good race to win here.
2. Proud Revolt (17-8-3-3 $157.760), trained by Stone Creek Farm
A winner this year on the downhill turf course in late January in a stake. He won that race and came back to run a good third in the Daytona and then won an allowance race at FG. He’s been consistent this year and is running good at SA so he has a good shot if everything goes good for him with his trip and instructions.
3. Home Free (6-1-1-1 $27.750), trained by Maxmillion Farm
A very lightly raced horse with only four starts as a two and three year old. He’s ran twice this year in two route races on the turf. He’s ran a second and a third in those races but he’s a question mark in here with the big jump in class and not running that often you can’t really tell what he will bring to the table.
4. Track Star (29-10-9-1 $564.530), trained by John Henry
The only mare in the race she gets a nice weight break from the boys. She’s very consistent with twenty starts of her twenty nine finishing in the top three. She ran second in her last start in a statebred stake down the hill. The weight break will help her a lot and she has a good chance with that on her side.
5. Siberian Prince (11-4-0-1 $828.280), trained by Sir Daniel Martin
Last year’s BC Juvenile Turf winner won his last start against older horses in the San Francisco Mile at GG. He had been on a skid since the BC win but regained his form last start with the weight break probably helping him out in that victory. It’s his first out on the downhill turf course so it’ll be interesting to see how he runs.
6. Silver N Blue (3-1-0-0 $0.00), trained by Maze Stables
Only one pay start in his short career and it was a next to last finish. A big longshot in here and I hardly doubt he’ll beat anybody home. He’s only got one win and that was at the free track and that’s not the greatest sign that he’ll have a chance in here. Maybe the trainer knows something about him we don’t.
7. Champion Farley (22-10-7-2 $817.450), trained by Mb Stables
Last year’s BC Turf Sprint runner up and winner of four of his last five. He’s ultra consistent and is probably the best horse in the race at the moment. He usually hangs out towards the rear of the field and makes a big run to nab victory at the wire so if the pace is fast guarantee him closing from behind.
8. Jerry Bien (8-5-1-1 $259.580), trained by Gdp Inc
The other three year old in the race will be making first career start on the turf. He’s been getting in the money finishes on the dirt sprinting but last out was a rather disappointing run. He’s definitely a wild card in here being how he’s never ran on the turf so it’s anybody’s guess on how he’ll run.
9. Tokyo Secret (25-9-4-1 $1013.570), trained by Tiratzo
Last year’s BC Turf Sprint hero and once a free track claim he’s payed off very nice for his trainer. He’s ran twice since that race but they have been disappointing performances as he hasn’t been in the money in either one of those starts. If he can regain his form he has a very good chance to win.
Summary
While Tokyo Secret and Champion Farley look like the toughest two in here a couple others may surprise them and steal the victory. Siberian Prince and Track Star may be the best chances with the weight breaks they will be getting so they will have it easier than a couple of the others to upset the race.
