San Antonio Stakes (GII) |
$500.000 4yo&Up 1 1/8m Dirt |
Just a pair of wins from his ten seasonal starts last year, but he was able to pocket $737.000 in earnings, so you know he’s still a classy devil at the age of nine. Kicked off his ’16 campaign with a solid runner-up finish in the Toboggan (GIII) at AQU, and now stretches back out to a two-turn distance. He’s the defending champion of this race, so you have to give him some respect.
Sold after back-to-back wins to close out his ’15 season, taking both the Marathon (GII) at KEE and a OptAlw race at AQU, both going the mile and a half distance… so there’s no doubt he can get this distance. Now a 7yo, he sure seems to be running well and seems to always be around when they hand out checks.
Well this one certainly doesn’t need an introduction… racking up the PRK (GI), Dandy (GII), Travers (GI) and Malibu (GI) and throw in a solid fast closing 3rd in the BC Classic as the 2/1 favorite, he’s one of the best in all the land. You have to give him a big look every time he loads up in the gate. The works say he’s ready to get things started. There’s nothing like being Horse of the Year!
Four wins from his ten seasonal starts in ’15, and he kicked off this year with a nice runner-up finish in the Ft. Lauderdale (GII ) at GP. He’s been a truf horse of late, but don’t be fooled, he has some main track ability as well. His am gallops say he’s ready to make a mark.
He comes into this one with a three-race win streak going and you certainly have to think that he’s on his best game right now, even at the age of six. He won over this track last out, kicking off his ’16 season with a nice run in the San Pasqual (GII), while beating a nice group of horses. He knows when the money is on the line.
Traffic just ruined his BC Classic (GI) run, but that’s his game – coming from well off of the pace. I don’t see him changing game plans today, so if he gets a clear run at them down the lane, he could be a major factor. He he hits the I10 at rush hour, it may be another long afternoon.
Four wins from eleven starts, BC Classic (GI) winner and yet was snubbed at the Horse of the Year honors, I’m sure the barn wanted to see A One again. This could be a great rivalry this season as the two 4yo’s are liable to see each other quite a bit. Can he beat that one again? Oh, it’s going to be a good race.
Got the job done in the BC Dirt Mile (GI) to put some icing on what had been a hard-luck campaign. This is a tough bunch, but he’s used to that – so can he pull the upset?
Got the ’16 season started well with an Alw win at Tam after finishing up the track in the BC Classic (GI). Not like him to tire that badly but maybe it was just the culmination of a long season… now, can he get back at it again? He could be the one to pull the curtain on them.
