5 WO Belle Mahone (GIII)
$150.000 3yo&Up F&M 1 1/16m Dirt 122lbs +penalties
We go north of the border for a nice group of ladies headed a mile and a sixteenth on the main track in the Belle Mahone (GIII). I will not be surprised by any outcome today, but my picks will probably be a bit chalky. Let’s give Pink Attack top billing off of that second in the Ruffian (GII) last out. I expect her to be out there winging it early, so traffic shouldn’t be an issue… just if she gets tired. I’ll move right next door and put the classy Tenrikyo in the second spot. Fifteen lifetime wins and nearly $4k in the bank… she’s is a tough mare.
Here’s The Field –
She’s been on the board in all three seasonal starts, showing a 1-1-1 from those three trips to the starting gate. All of those were Alw races, but she also won the Maple Leaf (GIII) over this track to close out her ’22 season, so I think you have to give her a big chance today.
She’s been close a bunch of times, but just can’t get her picture taken. She had four wins last season, but her 7yo season is 0-for. Can she turn it around today? You don’t put nearly $4.000.000 in the bank without being a heck of a runner, and she is.
She won the Royal Delta (GIII) to kick of the season and was second last out in the Ruffian (GII) at BEL, where she had a clear lead turning for home but was caught late. That’s kind of her MO – get it front and see where it lands you. Expect more of that today.
Nice win here over a wet surface, taking down OptAlw types, her first win from three starts this year. She was fourth/fifth in graded races at GP before that, so she fits well and should be in the picture when they turn for home.
Fourteen wins and twelve other on the board starts in her career… yeah, she’s all race mare. Won the Henson Hcp at SUN before that seventh on the grass here, but that was wet turf… her first turf try in thirty-nine starts… put a line through it and let’s see how she does today.
Only ten starts and she has been facing a bit softer than what she sees here today. Still, that was a nice three length win at TAM taking down Alw types, so maybe they have her figured out and she’s ready to run a big one vs some big ones.
Three wins last season putting $500.000 in the bank, and I think we can dismiss that fourth vs OptAlw types at GP, because 5f isn’t exactly her wheelhouse. She was second at MTH in the Pitcher (GIII) so, you have to give her a look.
