We head out to SoCal for this weekend’s coverage and up first, an absolute stellar group set to go a flat mile on the SA lush turf course in the Kilroe Mile (GI).  Wowsers, what a great field for this one!!  I was stuck between Albaquirky and Atomic Eclipse and ended up taking Atomic Eclipse as the top choice today.  He makes his return to the races after that win in the BC Mile (GI), and until they are taking down, he’s the mile specialist to me.  He also won the Poker Stakes (GIII) at a mile, and could have been claimed at the $75.000 level, winning here to kick off his ’23 season.  It’s a new year, a new season, and I don’t think you can pry him away for that price… at least not right now.  Don’t think that I’m not giving Albaquirky the respect he deserves… my forum posts have proven what I think of this monster, and he’s my second pick despite the distance…    he’s been more of a sprinter, but I think he can carry that speed a mile, so let’s see how he does against this salty group.  There are four or five that I could put in the third spot, and my odds reflect that, so let’s just key on the top pair and see how the chips fall.
