The Pan American – Grade II
1 1/2 Mile Inner Turf Stake Purse $200.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.
1st Classical Composer, trained by Yahudi Stables
This was a classic long distance race where the leader got away and nothing had the
puff to catch them. Classical Composer has done this before and left alone on a soft
early first half he was able to dominate from the front and hold on.
This horse has had a go at a couple of stakes races but this is his best effort so far
and given a wide draw and a soft lead there is no reason he cant do it again.
2nd Tucson, trained by Aer Stables
The veteran in the race he held the stalk throughout and though he tried hard to grind
the leader down he just didnt have the legs to do it at the end. A good run by the 48 race
seven year old though and it looks like there are still a few miles on the clock.
3rd War Scent, trained by Mb Stables
This dour stayer needed a faster early pace to deliver his late challenge today but never
got it and could only keep on late for third place beaten less than a length. Running a time
a second slower than his Hirsch Turf Classic win last year was clearly jockey error and you
would have to think the trainer will be having words with Velazquez.
4th Vegas Viper, trained by Maxmillion Farm
Another that misjudged the pace and got too far behind he too ran on well but could only manage
fourth.
5th Garibaldi
Clearly nowhere near the form that saw him win the HAW Derby he just whacked away to fifth but
was only beaten three lengths in the end.
6th Smokinngrinnin
This one went off as favourite but ran an awful race to be last.
