$600.000 4yo&Up F&M 1 1/8m Dirt 123lbs
It’s a huge weekend of stakes racing at The Spa and we look at the field for The Personal Ensign (GI), bring the handicap ladies on to the main track for a classic mile and an eighth contest. Get out the pool cues as I’m chalk in this one, and put Fashionable on top today. I like her speed in this rather large field, and she seems to be able to carry it on forever. She beat up on the boys in the Pegasus World Cup (GI) at this distance, so… she gets my $2. Right next door, I’ll put Z Command in the mix today. She’s been there every race since that race against the boys, and I think she can give the top choice a tussle. Let’s go to the far outside and put Shes A Super Freak on the tickets as well. I like that last out win, over this track and at today’s distance. You can make a case for a bunch of these, but let’s see if we can nail this down with these selections.
Here’s The Field –
Only one win this season for this one as she took the Allaire Distaff Stakes (GIII) at PIM back in May, but she has been close in all of her starts including a third last out in the Shuvee (GII) over this surface. I think she could be ready for a big race.
As solid a race mare as you could ever hope to find… she just goes out, graded race after graded race and brings home checks. Ten wins and eight other on-the-board finishes from twenty-five starts… yeah, she can run.
Very solid season, Winning the Santa Margarita (GII) and the Pitcher (GIII) in her most recent trip to the gate. She was second in the Phipps (GI) between that pair, so there is no doubt that she knows how to bring hom the bacon.
Last pair have been brutal, seventh in the Phipps (GI) and fifth in the Shuvee (GII) and is doesn’t get any easier today. She’s hasn’t won this year and her only on-the-board race was a runner-up effor in the Apple Blossom Hcp (GI). She needs to find some of that magic to be part of this race.
Two wins in a row taking the Santa Maria (GII) and then the Hirsch (GI) (DH) at DMR. Can she keep that hot hand going with this group? She sure does look to be in fine form right now.
She’s still looking for her first win of the ’22 season, but talk about a horse that is due to win… how about four seconds on the season, including her two most recent races, the Santa Maria (GII) and the Shuvee (GII). You gotta watch horses like this.
It’s been a back and forth year for this one as she won the Azeri BC (GII) and was second in The NY (GI), but she’s also had a pair of seventh place finishes along with a fifth, so you get my drift. She’s due for a good one.
Her three race win streak came to an end when she threw a dud in the Shuvee (GII). She won the Apple Blossom (GI), so she certainly knows how to get the job done. But the way the trainer is running her, it’s almost like they don’t want her in vs. this type… or maybe I’m dead wrong.
Claimed for just $10.500 and she’s two for two winning the Fleur De Lis Hcp (GII) then taking down high-end Alw horses, over this surface. That’s four wins in a row, going back to her claiming wins… she loves to win.
Another very consistent handicap mare that brings home check at every asking. She won the Allaire Distaff (GIII) (DH) and also won the HOU Ladies Classic (GIII) to kick off the year. She’s been right there in every race and you have to respect her today.
Two big wins this season taking the Beholder (GI) and again last out in the Shuvee (GII) here at The Spa. She was third in the La Troienne (GI) at CD, as well, so she’s a horse that could make some noise in this one, as well.
