Clouseau the One to Beat in CC Iron Horse

CC Iron Horse
$110.000 Ungraded Stake
3yos and up
1 1/16 Mile Dirt – GP

Even though he finished eighth, Clouseau was able to earn enough points to compete in the BD Dirt Mile (G2), a fact that earns him some respect in this field of eleven. Judging by experience alone, Clouseau and Iron Lonigan look like the class of the field. They are the only entrants that have tried stakes company, though neither of them has actually won at that level, nor has any other horse in this field.

1 Clouseau
Owner: John Henry
Breeder: Mb Stables

So far this year, this four-year-old gelding has raced twelve times, including an 8th place finish in the BC Dirt Mile (G1) last start. His only win this year came in March when he wired the field in optional claiming company on the turf at SA. He followed that up with a 2nd place finish in the NO Handicap (G2) at FG. He also finished second in the Metropolitan Handicap (G1) and the Suburban Handicap (G2), before changing hands in July for $250.000. Since then he has been in the money two out of four starts, but has yet to win in stakes company.

2 Beckham
Owner: Night Rider Stables
Breeder: Luz International

Has been on the board nine of ten starts this year, but his only win came in a $12.500 claimer in August at SSR. Last out, he finished third in the same class. With just claiming and state-bred efforts for this three-year-old gelding, he looks to be a bit outclassed here.

3 Pale September
Owner: Hacienda Don Tito
Breeder: Barcelona Farms

Comes in off a dead heat at WO in state-bred allowance company. Blinkers on for that effort and it seemed to help his performance. Will wear them again here. From a $2.500 claimer in October to stakes level, this is another one making a big jump up in class. Will need a best effort here.

5 Flying to Mia
Owner: Royalty Racing
Breeder: Wild Aces Stables

Just two career wins for this three-year-old colt, the last one coming in a $16.000 claimer back in April. He’s been testing the waters in allowance company and hitting the board pretty regularly at that level, but just doesn’t seem to be able to get over the N1X level. Might have a shot here with a good trip.

6 Read Seven
Owner: Threshold
Breeder: Team 7 Illusions

Maiden until he won an $8.000 maiden claimer three starts back. Beaten by a head last out in low-level claiming company.

7 Express Evil
Owner: Mojica Racing
Breeder: LionKing Stables

Claimed for $10.000 last start which he won by a neck. Prior to that, this four-year-old gelding won a $20.000 N1X at LAD. Will need a top effort here.

8 Dr. Dubeddu
Owner: Angelos Stables
Breeder: Team 7 Illusions

Was available for a $6.250 tag last out going five furlongs on turf, a race he won. His best effort before that was a second-place finish at 1 1/16 mile in a CLM 32.000 on dirt back in June. Dropped in class and shortened, no he will try to stretch out and step up.

9 Evil Position
Owner: Maxmillion Farm
Breeder: The Sidley Stud

Claimed for $5.000 last month and will make his debut in stakes competition here. Turned in a very nice work at DMR a few days ago. Should be good for the distance, but class is a question mark.

10 Iron Lonigan
Owner: Hambletonian Stable
Breeder: Quintis Racing

With a second in the state-bred $100.000 Gold Cup at DED in October, this six=year-old looks better on paper than most of this field. Not to mention his record with year of 14-8-6-0. Never worse than second all year and I wouldn’t expect this race to be any different.

11 War On Sunday
Owner: Czech Out Farms
Breeder: Nakamura Stables

Most of his thirty-two career starts have come on turf – in fact, all but three. One of those dirt starts came in the McFadden Starter Handicap where he finished second. It’s worth pointing out that he hit the board in all three of those dirt starts, but the other two efforts were at maiden level in his very first two starts.
