Clarendon Stakes
6 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $150.000 Open 2 Year Olds Foaled In ON.
1st Consumed By Fire Big Guns Stables Hernandez R M
The match race went as expected, but this one won with just a little more in hand that I thought he would. Jumping quickly from the ace gate he went pretty hard but eventually set up a decent enough lead to see him pretty much unchallenged from halfway. He won by a length in the end and looked much happier over this sprint trip that in the breeders Futurity last time although with a bad draw that day he may still prove effective over longer trips.
2nd Smitten Asgar Salles L
Tried to get to the front where he likes to be but once the AI quit trying and slipped him into the stalk it was all over. Whilst the winner seemed happier over this shorter trip this one looked as if he needed a bit further as he failed to close under pressure through the final furlong. The end of a good first season, I feel we will see more of him next year.
3rd Travis Mathew Nakamura Stables Pinto M
Looked to be next best on paper and that it how it turned out as he made ground from the trail but never looked like reaching the first two. Another that I think will be better over ground there will be plenty of good runs from him going forward.
4th Everlate Glorify Stables Vanek H M
The maiden was at odds of over 3000/1 but did manage a fourth placed finish and a few dollars in compensation. A maiden win won’t be far away.
