Silks Run Stakes
Purse $125.000 For Four Year Olds And Upward
-Gulfstream Park Hallandale Beach, Florida
Four-year-old Spin Zone from Mb Stables might be the now horse in a wide-open rendition of the Silks Run Stakes. “Zone” ran big in the BC Turf Sprint this past November and has fired a good number in his subsequent two starts. His numbers earned fit this context nicely and there is no doubt that sprinting on turf is his thing. He can push or sit, making him the horse to beat. Bay Another Man from Our Athletes was off a step slow in the BC Turf Sprint or he might have finished a touch closer. Little separated him from the top pick that day and it’s doubtful there will be much in it Saturday. If he breaks quickly, he might even be at an advantage going five furlongs. Gorilla Glue from Maxmillion Farm would seem to be the most adaptable to pace and surface if the race were to switch because of weather. He has run two straight on dirt and now comes back to the sod for this. His race four back on the surface was arguably one of, if not his best ever, earning a 101. If he takes back and they go nuts he will be smoking late. Ashurbanipal from Invicta Group Llc would be the bomb of the day. Taken for lunch money in mid-October last year he switched to the grass and has been in contention in four straight for the new barn. Appears to want this distance and surface, but this is a giant step up in class and the draw is a killer. Lights up the tote if it happens.
Of the rest:
Nitro from The Sidley Stud wants this trip and surface. Needs career best to take down the top prize Saturday but can’t be left off any tickets with confidence.
Teterboro from Chili King Stables draws the fence and will need all the luck to weave a clear passage through. Just a cut below the top two and with the lack of speed to flee the rail it looks like a risky proposition today.
Tank Davis from Royalty Stables has one race showing that gives hope. He ran a monster effort at Santa Anita coming down the hill, earning a 101. This is a different story, and he will need to somehow repeat that to share in the spoils. Food for thought.
Niagra Thunder from Threshold wants the distance and surface; he is also six for sixteen in the win column. That’s the good news; the bad news is that he would appear outclassed here by a long way. The last race effort offers a shot.
Bow And Arrow also from The Sidley Stud is picking a tough place to make his second appearance on the grass. Monster effort needed for sure.
