DED Race #12 $100.000 1-Mile
3YO+ Fillies and Mares 121/123 Lbs (plus penalties)
Track Record-1:34.55 (The Good Doctor-2021)
Stakes Record-1:35.57 (Distorted Jangles-2020)
For the second-consecutive year DED will host the $100.000 Treasure Chest for fillies and mares three year-olds and up going a flat mile. Last year’s winner, Distorted Jangles, did not return to defend her crown and neither did her trainer Maxmillion Farm. That means we will get new victors all the way around as this year’s field doesn’t include 2020’s winning jockey either. Only four ladies will line the gate for the $100.000 Treasure Chest so let’s go ahead and meet them:
#1 Icy Bay (Mwn Racing/A. Broussard 123): Rail-horse is a 4yo filly who will only be making the fourth start of her 2021 season. First three runs have all been off-the-board efforts this season, but this filly has some appeal on the stretch-out back to the mile. She does receive six pounds from the highweight and may deserve a serious look at a square price.
#2 Cp Skeleton Moons (Greyfriars Stable/P.L. Cotto Jr 129): Four straight graded starts leading into this, including a score in a G3 back in May. 4yo’s last two efforts came in tougher spots, so she should relish the class relief she gets here. Does have to give her rivals 6-8 pounds, but she looks to be a deserving favorite.
#3 Ku Deh (Night Rider Stables/T. Thornton 121): Only one win from ten starts for this sophomore, but there are a couple near misses in her running lines that suggest she can compete. Didn’t run terribly in G2 last month and she is getting eight pounds from the filly on her inside. Barn looks to continue their BC run of form.
#4 Denim Queen (First Class Stable/D. Saenz 121): Another 3yo to round out the field, but this lass only has five starts under her belt. She only has a single win to her credit, but could see her letting the other three battle it out for a while before launching a late bid. Three starts on dirt have all yielded a profit, so she’s in good form.
Final Analysis: Taking a stab with the 3 mainly because eight pounds is quite a bit of weight to give and the barn seems to be firing on all cylinders currently. Good luck to everyone involved with the 2nd running of the $100.000 Treasure Chest at DED!
