BONUS SRF COVERAGE 2020 BC – DAY 1
1 KEE The Nyquist
$125.000 2yoC&G 6 1/2f Dirt 122lbs +penalties
We get kicked off on Friday with a group of 2yo colts and geldings set to go six and a half furlongs in The Nyquist. Only one of these picks up the two pound penalty for a stakes win as Cp Coppers Revenge took down state-bred types at LAD and he’s my second choice here today. I’m headed to the outside post and took Blame The Force as my top pick. He broke maiden at SA in his first start, tired vs. stakes horses then has a second and a win vs MTH Alw horses, and that may be good enough to get the job done here. I’ll put Patriot in the third spot, as this barn seems to know how to work magic with this type of horse in the this type of spot.
2 KEE The Songbird
$125.000 2yoF 6 1/2f Dirt 122lbs +penalties
If it’s good enough for the boys, let’s do one with the girls, and we look at the field of 2yo fillies set to go six and a half furlongs in The Songbird. We have two prior stakes winners in this one, both at the state-bred type, and one of those will be my top choice. I like Take On Me and she is a seasoned veteran having three stakes starts under her belt. The other is my second choice, but really for a different reason – Nice And Risky actually has a win over this track and I’m a big believer in horses for courses. She took down $50.000 claimers here in wire-to-wire fashion. Literal Goat will be my third choice. She has a nice Alw win at SAR back in Jul and was closing in the Anoakia Stakes at SA in her last out effort.
3 KEE The Bryan Station
$150.000 3yo 1 1/8m Dirt 122lbs +penalties
One of these sophomores will walk away with their first stakes victory and we have an evenly matched group set to go a mile and an eighth in The Bryan Station on the main track. Midnight Lightning will get the slim nod from me off of his near miss vs. FL-bred stakes horses last out. I think he is still getting better and may run big today. Red Dawning will probably be the post time favorite off of that second place finish in the Super Derby (GIII). Class Factor was only beaten three-quarters of a length in the OK Derby (GIII) last out and that should put him in the hunt as well.
4 KEE The McConnell Springs
$150.000 3yo&Up F&M 6f Dirt 3yo 121lbs Older 124lbs
A small field of five sprinting females will be headed post-ward for The McConnell Springs, to be run at six furlongs on the main track. I’ll look for Deeback to get the job done here today. She won a stakes at PIM back in May and has been on the board vs. graded horses in her last four. That should spell win here today. Uzume is another with graded experience and should give a good fight to the finish.
5 KEE Marathon (GII)
$200.000 3yo&Up 1 1/2m Dirt 3yo 121lbs Older 124lbs
The long distance runners will be going at it in the Marathon (GII) going the full mile and a half distance on the main oval. I’ll go to the rail and take Market Value as the top selection in this one. A repeat of that last out win in the Tokyo City Cup (GIII) should be enough to take these, I believe. Graveyard has struggled and is looking for his first win of the year, but his mile and a half effort in the BEL (GI) shows that he likes the distance, and he may bring some value. Both Buckskin and Mad Monster were on the board in graded races in their most recent trip to the gate, so keep both of them in mind in this one.
