BONUS SRF COVERAGE 2020 BC – DAY 2
1 KEE Lafayette Stakes
$150.000 3yo&Up 7f Dirt 3yo 121lbs Older 124lbs +penalties
The big Saturday races get kicked off with a series of sprint stakes and we start with the 7f Lafayette Stakes and this seems to be a story of ups and downs. A few of these have been on tough times while racing with graded horses while a couple others are coming in with Alw and maiden wins, looking to get their graded careers going. I landed on Mr Grusome as my top choice. He just missed on the BEL turf last out while facing graded types, but he’s shown talent on the main track as well so I’ll look for another big effort from this one today. I’ll put Pookie in the second spot even though he didn’t lift a hoof in the Amsterdam (GII) at SAR. I think that was more the off track, as he also didn’t do much in that maiden race at GG in similar conditions. I’m looking for a fast track and that seems to be his fav, plus he may have some odds. I think you can throw a blanket over a few to consider like Cardinal Direction and Bombastic Nobility, so keep them in mind in your exactas and tri’s.
2 KEE Perryville
$125.000 3yo 6f Dirt 122lbs +penalties
Sophomore sprinters are the name of the game here in the Perryville, going six furlongs on the main track, and this is just about as wide open as you could want a race to be. I am leaning on the outside post and Sexy Back as my top choice. Other than his Travers (GI) effort, he’s been right there in all starts and just missed last out over this surface. I’ll give Highlines a look today off of the near misses in his last pair. Claimed prior to those races and the new connections have him sharp and ready to go today. I’d keep Cp Midnight Pains, Fusaichi Pegasus and maybe a couple others in the scope today… again, this really is a wide open affair.
3 KEE Fort Springs
$125.000 3yoF 6f Dirt 122lbs +penalties
We have a small field of five sophomore fillies set to go six furlongs in the Fort Springs, the last preliminary race before we get into the BC festivities. I don’t like handicapping races with one of my own in it, but I just put her in to make sure the race went and I’m glad to see it did. Let’s go to the outside post and give Small Fry the slight edge today. She was off of the board in her last pair but those were graded races and I think the drop in class and smaller field will work to her advantage. Let’s go right next door to Roo for the second spot. She was fourth going longer at RP last out and that was against graded horses. Softer and shorter could spell win for her today.
