She was pointed indeed!! Bouncing back from a less than thrilling trip to Toronto, Hippyheart’s Demanding Commander stayed close to the pace throughout Sunday’s Spinaway (GI) at SAR, and found another gear in the late going to score by three-quarters of a length, finishing the seven furlongs in 1:234 on a strip labeled GOOD. Incendiary was forwardly placed as well and ran a gave a big effort down the stretch to take the second spot, a neck better than In Amongst The Wreck in third. Long-shot Curlina was fourth in a race that first-to-worst was covered by only three lengths.
With the scratch of Carols Puzzle, we had a field of eight enter the gate, and away in good order with Believe In Miracles from the inside, In Amongst The Wreck from the outside, both showing good early speed. Cosmo Belle from the rail, Demanding Commander between horses and Rosalind from her outside, Incendiary towards the inside, then a gap to Capital Reult on the outside of the early trailer, Curlina.
The field made their way down the backside, nearing the far turn with a half mile left to run, Believe In Miracles on the inside, In Amongst The Wreck on the outside, these two continuing to battle on the lead, Demanding Commander on the outside of Incendiary, Cosmo Belle hugging the rail just behind that duo, Rosalind in the four path, giving chase, then Curlina and Capital Result was now the back marker.
Swing around the far turn and to the top of the lane, the went past the three-sixteenths pole, In Amongst The Wreck now in front by a length, Demanding Commander revving up down the center of the track, Believe In Miracles losing some ground along the rail, then a length and a half to Incendiary now feeling the whip, Cosmo Belle towards her inside, Rosalind widest of all, Curlina just to her inside and Capital Result could see them all.
Inside the final sixteenth and to the finish, Demanding Commander up to stick a neck in front, In Amongst The Wreck trying to stay on, Incendiary with a clear path and pressing forward, Believe In Miracles on the rail and losing further ground, as the remainder tried to close up a late gap, but nearing the wire, this was Demanding Commanders race and she went under the wire in front by three-quarters of a length. Incendiary came home in good fashion but could not get to the winner, taking the second spot by a neck over a very game In Amongst The Wreck. It was another three-quarters of a length to the late closing Curlina in fourth, Cosmo Belle fifth, Believe In Miracles tiring to be sixth, Rosalind seventh and Capital Result closed this one out.
Demanding Commander is a 2yo gray filly by Twin Towers – Aeneid, by Cherokee Sunset, and she was bred by her owner, Hippyheart, in Cal. This was her second win from four starts, and she now has lifetime earnings of $204.240. Congratulations to the connections!

Demanding Commander raced in the second flight to the top of the lane, asked, responded 3p, up to take over at the sixteen pole, kept to task, won driving. Incendiary raced mid-pack, 3p lane, some late foot while no threat to the winner. In Amongst The Wreck pressed the early pace, up to take over midway on the turn, headed sixteenth pole, ceded late. Curlina lacked early interest, best foot too late closing a late gap. Cosmo Belle mid-pack, saved ground to no avail. Believe In Miracles set the pace to the turn, headed, tired. Rosalind raced second flight, wide trip, tired. Capital Result was outrun.
