16 LS Sexton Mile (GIII)
$400.000 3yo&Up 1m Dirt 3yo 116lbs Older 122lbs
Not that it paid much, but we nailed this one down… The Sidley Stud gets the job done as Distant Breeze wins his third consecutive graded stakes, setting the pace and holding off all late challenges, winning the Sexton Mile (GIII) by a quarter length while stopping the clock at 1:342. The LS main oval was listed as Fast. The 6yo gray gelding is using his speed to his advantage, and it’s working much better than the grass efforts… he’s won four of his last five main track starts and just runs the legs off of ’em in the process. He now shows eleven wins from thirty-four starts and lifetime earnings of $1,088.030. Congrats for that milestone and to the Connections!
Electric, from the Angelos Stable, tracked the leader throughout and did close the gap late, but just could not muster enough to pass and took the second spot over a photo finish where Grimley’s Ocala Street just nosed out Maxmillion Farm’s Crumbler, those for the third and fourth money. Only three lengths from first to worst in this tightly contested stakes. There were no scratches.
