Vinery Madison – Grade I (P4)
KEE Race #3 7f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $300.000 For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward.
1 Ambient, trained by Mb Stables
This five year old daughter of Pure Steel is fairly lightly raced with only 18 starts to her name.
A grade two winner and twice placed at grade one she ran the race of her life in the BC Fillies and
Mares Sprint last year when a half length second at generous odds. She was rested after that effort
and reappeared this season with a fine second in the Santa Monica Stakes. She was given a confidence
boost in an open allowance at GP where she ran out a half length winner and sets herself up with a
great chance off the inside draw today.
2 Team Nebraska, trained by Aer Stables
This filly looked a very good buy at only $150.000 when bought just a few days ago by the current owner.
She is thrown straight into action today and has a very good chance of winning back her entire cost
price. A grade one winner at two and three she took the Frizette as a juvenile and the Las Virgenes Stakes
last year. Though that Las Virgenes win was the last time she won a race she has been in top company
and pretty much run her socks off every time. Fourth in the BC Distaff and the Cigar handicap is top rate form
and whilst she has faced three defeats this year she has run with a lot of merit in graded stakes grade.
The obvious worry is her turn of foot these days but she wouldnt have to be at her best to go very close
today.
3 Cozzene Scandal, trained by Night Rider Stables
This four year old has won eight from fifteen but only really made her mark after being claimed back in
August last year. A multiple overnight winner she wasnt really tested by her then trainer but as soon as she was
claimed she was given her chance to meet her true potential. A win in the grade three Sugar Swirl was
sandwiched between good effort in ungraded stakes and she had a recent pipe opener in a small GG overnight
which she won with ease. Whether she is up to this level yet i doubt but she knows where the winning post is and
deserves a decent shot.
4 Distant Cousin, trained by D J C Racing Stables
This stable star has won half of the races she has competed in, most notably when taking the BC Fillies and
Mares Sprint last year. She reappeared this season to take the grade two Fritchie Stakes with Team Nebraska
back in third and then ran a cracker in the Santa Margarita when going down by less than a length to Google Maps
over a trip that may not have suited. Back over her BC winning trip today i expect this admirable filly to get back to
winning ways.
5 T S Devil, trained by Triple K
In a race where it is very difficult to rule any of them out this looks the least likely winner but you can still
make a case for her. A dual grade three winner she wasnt that far behind in the BC Fillies Sprint and she has
come out this season in very good form winning two good open Allowances. That will have done her confidence the world of good and she is sure to be rattling home fast and wide.
SUMMARY
If Distant Cousin is at her best then she should just win over the well drawn Ambient but it wouldnt take much for these two to get rolled by Team Nebraska. So thats my one two three with a cigarette paper between the first two.
