2 The Peter Pan (GIII)
$200.000 3yo 11/8th Mile Dirt 122lbs +penalties
I remember when The Peter Pan (GIII) was a lead-in to the BEL… now, it seems to be an after-thought in an endless sea of 3yo stakes races. Then again, I’m known as a constantly complaining dullard, so… there’s that.
We are talking 3yo’s, we are talking stakes races… we are talking Mb Stables. The Big Barn stays loaded with these monsters so let’s give Highway Robber the nod today. I know they were made an offer for this one, prior to the KYD, and it was quickly shunned, so the barn likes this gelding, and why not? He just missed over this track in the Wood Mem (GII), and he beat some KYD contenders that evening. Rain here Friday and isolated T-storms on Sat, the track could be wet, and he liked it in that race, so… he seems the logical choice to me. Let’s take his stable-mate, right next door, and put Hazardous in the second spot. Lightly raced and only a maiden win (over the track) to his credit, but he was fourth in the FL Derby (GI), right after being altered… and shows a string of local gallops over this oval, so I’m guessing he’s going to be a tough nut. One gate over, we get out third pick as Soho Police is another that looks ready for a big effort. Claimed for a ham sandwich, he came back to be second in the Rushaway, then fourth in the BG Stakes (GI) at KEE… so he’s already proven to be a sharp claim… now, can he turn it up a notch?
