Dogs Infowarrior Grabs Baruch Handicap

The Baruch Handicap GII

For Three Year Olds and Upward

One Mile and Sixteenth Turf

Monday September 7, 2015

Purse: $250.000

Welcome back to the Spa! On Monday the Grade II Baruch Handicap took place. We had a field of six go in this one so now lets take a look on how it unfolded.

The winner of the Grade II Baruch Handicap was Dogs Infowarrior. A winner last time out here at the spa under Javier Castellano winning an oclm for $80.000 was looking to make it back to the winners circle on the step up. Going off at odds of 3/1 with Elvis Trujillo in the saddle for this one was away fourth of the six starters and just two lengths behind early leader A Fine Romance, as he hit the top of the lane Elvis went to the stick and he picked it up passing horses, with a furlong to go Quickoto came with him and the two hit the line together with Dogs Infowarrior getting the head bob at the wire for the victory. The time went in 1:39.32 for the mile and sixteenth over the inner sod and gives owner Grimley a Grade II victory to the resume. The owner picks up a check of $150.000 for the victory.

2) Quickoto ~ 4/1 and coming into this off a twelve place finish in the Grade I Arlington Million. Jockey Luis Saez climbing back aboard today was hoping to repeat the effort they had together two starts back here at the Spa versus Allowance Company. Away third at the break and just a length behind, as he headed into the straightaway Luis was all out as he hooked up with Elvis Trujillo and Dogs Infowarrior the two hit the line together leaving Quickoto the losing end of the photo by a head. The nice run by Quickoto and Luis Saez gave owner Nolespan Racing a check for $60.000.

3) Kavorka ~ 9/1 and returning to the sod after trying his last five over the main track with his most recent start coming in the GII Suburban Handicap where he was eighth was looking for a turn around with the change to the sod. Getting out fifth of the six starters and just two lengths back, as he made his way into the lane he was within striking range, but it was not enough on this day to catch the top two leaving him third beaten by three parts of a length under Jose Lezcano. He went out for owner and breeder Jerry Garcia Racing who picks up a check for $30.000.

4) Uncle Charlie ~ *1/1 and a winner in his last start in the GIII Oceanport was looking to make it two in a row. Away second and just a nose behind A Fine Romance, as he stayed just behind that one heading into the stretch Rafael Bejarano tried pushing bye the leader but was not able to today. He went under the line to finish fourth for owner Nakamura Stables. The owner grabs $10.000 for the run.

5) A Fine Romance ~ 3/1 comes out of a second place finish at DMR when taking on oclm for $80.000. Now moving up to run here in the GII Baruch Handicap owner and breeder Dandy Dan Stables was hoping this could get his first score of the year. Out and hustled to the front by Irad Ortiz, as he lead the whole way heading into the stretch Irad looked to get more out of him but there was nothing left leaving him to finish fifth by two lengths.

6) Hootie ~ 10/1 and the longest shot on the board here in the Baruch Handicap were coming out of a fifth place finish at Ellis Park against Allowance Company where he was the beaten favorite. Getting away last of the six at the break and sitting four of the leader, as he headed into the lane Jose looked for him to get going but he did not fire today leaving him sixth for owner/ breeder D J C Racing Stables.

This is Choppy I am OUT!
