Lake Ontario Stakes ($100.000 Purse)
WO- For Colts and Geldings Three Years Old Foaled In ON
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
November 10, 2023
The Lake Ontario Stakes took place on Friday at WO, sending a field of five a little more than a mile around the main track. On paper, this was not the most exciting of races, as it lacked a headliner and consisted of horses that have, with one exception, struggled to win over their careers. Someone would have to win, and for that horse, there would be the potential to use this race to generate some further momentum. That winner ends up being Lunar Victory, for Fractious. It’s the first win in the race for both the trainer and the jockey, P Husbands. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:40.93. Here’s a look at it!
(1/4 Mile- :23.44)- Lunar Victory goes right to the lead for Fractious, and the eventual winner of the race holds a half-length advantage over Power Racing’s Tropical Sin. After a gap of about two lengths, Treat Me First runs by himself for Crocker Ggs, a length ahead of his Entrusted (Nakamura Stables) and Short Order (Crocker Ggs).
(½ Mile- :47.05)- Around the opening turn, and midway into the backstretch, Lunar Victory looks very comfortable out front in the race and he has been able to pull away from Tropical Sin. Behind them, the gap has grown to about three lengths to the rest of the field, where it is still Treat Me First running ahead of Entrusted and Short Order.
(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- It’s all Lunar Victory out in front of the field, as he has now opened up a commanding lead of around four lengths as Tropical Sin was no longer able to keep up with him and has really dropped out of it. No one else was coming, so it would take a monumental collapse now for Lunar Victory to blow it. Short Order had moved into third and is preparing to pass Tropical Sin. Treat Me First was lacking response, and the same is true for Entrusted.
Finish (1:40.93)- There would be no unexpected developments in the stretch as Lunar Victory comfortably finished the race off, winning by essentially two lengths. It wasn’t a full 2/5ths, though, so the ending race line will let second place Short Order appear to have gotten closer than he really did. Treat Me Right gets the show photo on Entrusted, and Tropical Sin brings up the rear.
About The Winner- Lunar Victory, trained by Fractious and ridden to victory by P Husbands, is a three-year-old gelding by Residue and is out of Havre de Grace. He was bred in Ontario as a third quarter two-year-old by Fractious, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his second in twelve starts, and his first stake win. His career earnings are now $200.360.
