2 RP OK Derby (GIII)
$400.000 3yo 1 1/8m Dirt 122lbs
Consider the apple-cart upset... making every call a winning one, Dutty John Crow, owned by Night Rider Stables, used his speed to get in front and stay there, holding off a late charge from Penalty Shot, and take the OK Derby (GII) on Sunday. The bay gelding got the mile and a sixteenth in 1:47.53 and was dismissed as a 19/1 outsider in the field of six. Penalty Shot made a late bid, but had to settle for the second spot, three lengths in front of post-time favorite Evergreen, in third. Catch Speedy grabbed the minor money taking the fourth spot.
Dutty John Crow is a 3yo bay gelding by Dial It In – Sweet Iron, by Iron Kaki, and he was bred in Cal by his owner, Night Rider Stables. This was his fourth win from eleven starts, second win of the ’21 season, and he now had lifetime earnings of $550.000. Congrats to the connections!

Penalty Shot rated off of the pace to the turn, began to advance through the turn and into the lane, good late effort, gaining late. Evergreen tracked the pace, nothing left for the drive. Catch Speedy gave an even effort, no threat. Smokin Luka flashed early speed, weakened. Stiff Peter trailed throughout.
