Violette ($100.000 Purse)
SAR- For Two Year Olds Foaled in NY
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
July 21, 2021
Dwindle’s work times were just a little bit better than everyone else participating in the Violette Stakes at SAR, and that made him one of the top picks for the race. With two year olds, you never know what to expect, but on Wednesday, him being just a little bit better would play out when it mattered, as he went on to win the race by nearly a length. He was our second pick, and if you eliminated the horse that we picked to win, then we would have had the top three, but of course, that’s not the way it works. Dwindle is trained by Mb Stables, a place where he should have a bright future. T Gaffalione is the winning rider, and both of them are first time winners in this stake. Congratulations! Persistent rain showers throughout the afternoon left the course as muddy, and the race was run in 1:12.01. Let’s take a look at it!
(¼ Mile- :23.03)- There are a few horses that contend for the early lead, but none of them make a large push to do so. Prevailing in this battle would be our eventual winner from Mb Stables, as Dwindle is able to take a length lead as they prepare to move into the turn. Never Hold Back, out of Arindel, holds the second spot while right to his inside on the rail is Le Chat Et La Lune, from D J C Racing Stables. Noble Order was initially with that group of three, but the Sccj Stables entry drops back into a stalking position. As he does this, he will have Forever Fire (mb Stables) and Underground Creeper (Aer Stables) to his inside. It’s one more length to Meltz (Gdp Inc), and another to Model Commander (TwinTowersRacing). The trailers are Worthington Springs (Acber Farms) and Victory In Europe (Big Jd Racing).
(½ Mile- :46.67, Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Dwindle looks really good in the turn, and there is nothing that Never Hold Back can do about it. Dwindle enters the stretch looking like he might give the field the slip very early, with a length and a half advantage. Never Hold Back is second, and he has a length lead over La Chat Et La Lune and Forever Fire and neither Underground Creeper nor Noble Order were making any progress, either. All really seemed well for Dwindle at this point. Meanwhile, Meltz simply held his line on the rail, and Model Commander was not making a move. Worthington Springs was looking good, but he had a ton of ground to have to make up now. Victory In Europe had an even bigger deficit.
(Finish- 1:12.01)- None of Dwindle’s closest competitors were able to make a move on him, allowing him to continue to look like this race was in the bag for him. One of the more distant competitors, however, gave us quite a thrill in the stretch as Worthington Springs made a strong move on exit of the turn, and took the far outside lane. There would be no one quicker in the run to the wire, but he spotted Dwindle too much ground. It would not be a wasted effort, as it would get him second place, and around the other Mb horse, Forever Fire, just in time for the finish. There was a gap of length to another late runner, that being Victory In Europe, who meet Meltz to the line for the final piece of the purse. Rounding it out, it’s Never Hold Back, Underground Creeper, Model Commander, Noble ORder and La Chat Et La Lune.
About The Winner- Dwindle, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by T Gaffalione, is a two year old gelding by Sweet Sweat, and is out of Diluted. He was bred in New York as a first quarter two year old by Mb Stables. Congratulations to the connections! He’s now 2-for-2 in his career, with earnings of $72.600.
