10 GP Ghostzapper (GIII)
$100.000 4yo&Up 1 1/8m Dirt 124lbs +penalties
The stakes races are plentiful at GP today and we look at the Ghotzapper (GIII), a mile and an eighth stakes for the older handicap horses. A field of eight is entered for this one and it’s really a wide open affair. The green card jumped on He Needsa Manzillian as the top choice. He won a stakes at AQU in his first start for this barn, but was up the track in the Razorback. That OP oval can be a worrisome spot, so give him a pass on that finish. Savannah Ruler is on the bottom of his exacta ticket and that one has won three of his last four starts, so I understand why he likes that one. I think Mb Stables has a big chance today, and would not leave Antonym off of any tickets.
Here’s The Field –

That Funky Monkey | Threshold | Tunon M | 124 |
10/1 |
The old boy threw three bad races and was shipped off via private sale, so this is the first start for the new barn and he’s been off since Nov. Who do we get today, those horse that won the Vanderbilt Hcp (GI) last July or the or the one that hasn’t hit the board since? His best would be tough… but does he still have anything close?

Savannah Ruler | Night Rider Stables | Baird E T | 124 | 7/2 |
Three wins from his last four starts including the ONT Derby (GIII) at WO last fall. He kicked-off ’22 with a nice OptAlw win over this track and looks to keep the hot hand going. I think you have to use him on all tickets.
|
Antonym | Mb Stables | Hernandez C J | 124 | 5/2 |
He shows three wins from his last five starts including the CT Classic (GII) and TAA Stakes (GII) at DMR. Twenty-seven wins from fifty-three starts… you get the idea, the big barn knows how to get this one to the winners circle.

He Needsa Manzillian | Mo Mentum Farm | Centeno D E | 124 | 8/1 |
Sold two races back and won his first start for the new connections, taking the Jazil at AQU, then struggled with ninth of thirteen in the Razorback Hcp (GIII) at OP. I’ll give a pass on that OP start, as that track can play havoc with some horses. Look for him to improve.
|
Ohtani | Choppy Inc. | Chirinos R | 124 | 10/1 |
Changed hands at the March Auction and makes his first start for the new connections. He won the Shoemaker Mile (GI) last year, but that was in may and he’s had a string of six off-the-board finishes. Can he find some of the old magic?
|
Broken Tap | Jokerjoes | Castellano J J | 124 | 5/1 |
Odd turn of events for last years BC Dirt Mile (GI) winner as he ran fifth in the Cigar Mile (GI) then was tagged via the hostile takeover for $62.500 where he was sixth of nine, as the morning line favorite. Was sold prior to making a start and now reappears for a new barn. Obviously, if he fires, he could be tough.

Herbalise | Rousee | Talamo J | 124 | 9/1 |
The good news is he’s been tough in just about every start, bringing home checks on a regular basis, but the bad news is his off-the-board start was his only graded start, so he needs to find a bit more if he want to run with this group.
