9 GP The Suwannee River (GIII)
$100.000 3yo&Up F&M 1m InTurf 3yo 120 lbs Older 123 lbs +penalties
Waaaay Down to beautiful Hallandale FL and GP for a nice field of eight ladies set to go a flat mile in The Suwannee River (GIII). I’m not sure what the “inner turf” is at GP… it only has one turf course, but hey… grass is grass. I’m going with Amalfi as my top choice in this one… the three year old filly comes back from a sixth place finish in the BC F&M Turf (GI) and she was tough in those two GI races prior to that one. Her class should rise to the occasion. Another that deserves a serious look is Deep Atonement. She ran bit in the Noble Damsel and just got run down late by a very tough race older horse. She should be fresh and ready to run big.
Here’s the Field –
She’s been seventh of eleven in her last two starts, both GI affairs, but she has four wins on the season including the JC Oaks with a nice purse in that one. She was also on the board in a couple of recent GI races. Her best efforts may have come back in the spring, and she seems to go off double digit odds in every start… but her best would certainly put her in the hunt today.
Sixth in the BC F&M Turf (GI) last out, only beaten three lengths and she’s had four wins on the season, taking down both the Miss Preakness (GIII) and San Clemente (GII). Add in the second and third vs GI before the BC and I think you have to give her a big shot today… she could very well be the one to beat.
Three wins and a pair for thirds from nine starts this season, but she hasn’t won since April and hasn’t seen graded foes. She only beat one in the Busher as the port time favorite and just doesn’t sit well with me right now. With all of that being said, she will probably roll by three, so don’t pay attention to me.
A pair of wins this year and four runner-up races… she was on a roll until that poor effort in the Seashore last out at DMR where she just never really got going. She’s done most of her damage in the PA-bred races, but has some fair races in open company, so you should probably give her a look today.
She’s been on the board in eight of ten races this year including four wins, and she’s been first or second in her last four starts. She has been on a steady diet of weeds so she is right at home on the grass. Add in a nice win in the Pebbles at BEL and she’s a horse that certainly needs to be on your tickets.
Solid filly that has been on the board in nine of ten starts and her other race was a fourth, so you certainly can’t fault her consistency. She hasn’t won since June but as advertised, she’s been close in a bunch of other races. I think you have to give her a serious look.
Three wins this year and took the Unzip Me Stakes at SA two back on the down-hill course. Came back to be fourth in the Autumn Miss (GIII) in SoCal, so she’s been in with decent horses… and certainly has held her own. She loves the turf so this is a spot where she should be able to show her best.
A pair of seasonal wins and three seconds for this one, and she comes into this one off of those three consecutive runner-up finishes. She just missed in the Noble Damsel (GIII) last out, and that was a tough group. She did all of the heavy lifting in that race and was caught late by a real monster… she has to be respected in this one.
