The Salvator Mile – Grade III
1 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $150.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
With the official margin back to the last horse being 3 lengths and the obligatory dead heat this race was again one of “those” HRP races that we have got used to seeing. With a strong early pace, it was always going to be a traffic jam at the end and sure enough it was the one that got the clearest run that won and everything else will have enough excuses that the trainers will feel they are justified in having just one more go at a big purse.
Here is how they ended up finishing:
1st Electric Angelos Stable Camacho Sa
There is no doubt this was the class horse in the race with a grade one victory to his name, but he had to use all his 44-race experience to find a win today in a race that could’ve gone 12 different ways. Siting back off the strong pace, the AI made it’s run slightly before some of the others and in flicking to the outside like a crab he had found the winning of the race. Running strongly to the line he had just under a length to spare at the line over a whole bunch of hard luck stories and bad AI choices. I am not sure this six-year-old has too many more miles on the clock but he loves this mile and is in good form this year so I wouldn’t put him past him, with the same AI decisions, to pick up another black type race before he hangs up his horseshoes.
2nd Alive Riggins Racing Hernandez C J
The wide gate pushed him up into the stalk, but it was pretty competitive for the lead, so he sat there until he challenged round the turn. With 8 closers though, there is always going to be one that finds the gap and he lost out in the finish. This was a brave effort, and he was the first to finish of those on speed, so it was a pretty creditable effort. At four he has plenty of time to win a race like this.
3rd Chagrin Falls Mo Mentum Farm Gonzalez J L
He ran a solid third from a loose stalk and has become a pretty reliable sort as a six-year-old. He beat a few good ones today and whilst there was very little over the field at the end, I feel he ran his best race today. If he can back up this form and his sizzling mile work, there may be a decent race in his future.
4th= Papa Nature Night Rider Stables Vargas J A Jr
Came from a mile back with a few others but could not negotiate the traffic to get close enough. A fair effort but his chances looked ominous when he fell to the back of the field early on
4th= Best Of West Williams9 Vazquez R A
Ran well enough against older horses in only his sixth start but he has never raced over the same trip twice, and I feel that he needs to find his best trip to really kick on from what is a good start to his career.
