1 Pretoria, trained by Nakamura Stables

Carried on a good end to 2014 with a battling win on seasonal debut in a fast mile time. An on speed runner he didn’t look to stay the mile and three eighths when well beaten in the grade two Diarmida and comes back in trip to try and find his bets form today. He likes to race on the pace and I worry that this seven furlongs may be a bit sharp for him to be able to dominate but he certainly has every chance from the one gate.

2 Mission Accomplished, trained by Robeth

Sold for thirty dollars after a run down the field in an overnight last time he certainly has some good form to his name but may find this seven furlongs short of his best. His turf works are still good enough to suggest he retains his ability at age 5 but there were some questions raised last time out and they will need to be answered before he gets my vote of confidence.

3 Jamfest, trained by Jkk Racing Stables

Seven is the new four so his age holds no fears for me and he does have the advantage of being a true sprinter. A winner of last season’s BC Turf Sprint he has been a little below par in his two runs this year but his sharp works suggest he is close to top form and that may be enough in a stakes race that he escapes a penalty.

4 Copper Special, trained by Mojica Racing

A consistent sprinter who has been running well in lesser company, his win second up in 56 and 2 looks good pace for this. He has won two races over a route trip so the seven furlongs should hold no fears and he may well be a dark horse to upset the more established stakes horses in this race.

5 Great Sandy Desert, trained by Wolfs Den

Another old warrior this grand seven year old has won 16 races from his 57 career starts. Most of those wins have come at the route trip but he has shown speed so can sprint when asked to. It has been a while since he last won and this looks another big ask.

6 Birthday Call, trained by Canadian Racing

Has only won once in a light career and whilst there isn’t much to recommend him on form he has been working pretty well.

Summary

I would expect the BC winner Jamfest to bounce back in this race but there are plenty of questions about these runners and we may see a surprise win from Copper Special if things go his way.
