The Music City Stakes (Grade 2)- $2,000.000 Purse
KD- For Fillies Three Years Old
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
September 7, 2024
So far in her career, End Of The Devil seems like one of those horses that can win no matter what the conditions are. She’s achieved both on the dirt and the turf, and recently had been running well going long and finished third in the Lake George last time out. Trainer Maxmillion Farm could have stayed on that path, but instead pointed her here, to the $2,000.000 Music City Stakes. End Of The Devil had looked good in works and was among our picks for this race though not the top choice. The Cherokee Devil filly went off at odds of 11/1, but this was a race where there were no clear favorites, as the top choice (Sister Nancy) still went off at odds of nearly 5/1. It was a good day for Maxmillion Farm here as his other entry and the one we did pick to win, Decimas Queen ran third. This is the first win in the race for both the trainer and jockey S X Bridgmohan, congratulations to them! The time of the win, in what was just the second running of the stake, was 1:14.45, slightly faster than last year. Note that Its Real drew in from the also eligibles following the scratch of Star Sapphire. Here’s a look at the race:
(1/4 Mile- :22.56)- It was not immediately apparent from the starting gate as to which filly would grab the early lead, but as we moved down the backstretch, Bright Moon, trained by Mb Stables, would prevail for that spot by head over her stablemate, Eye Catching. Its Real, who drew in from Team 7 Illusions, also looked to grab the lead early but settled for third in a stalking position. Right next to her was Reaper Lightning, who’s owned by Fractious. Asgar’s Heavenly Dime is within a half-length of them while on the rail, then we have a four wide group right behind him. This is where we find our eventual winner from Maxmillion Farm, End Of The Devil, as he runs to the inside of this group and in the second lane overall. Big Jd Racing’s Bronxbabesarebest is immediately beside her, and in the next lane we have TwinTowersRacing’s Awesome Angel. That one’s stablemate, Beat Down, runs on the outside of this group. It’s another length to the post time favorite, Sister Nancy (D J C Racing), who’s going to the take the turn six wide. Decimas Queen (Maxmillion Farm) runs evenly with her, then comes Sinisoul (Alydar Stables). Out of the pack and trailing are Neon Star (Night Mare Racing) and Kuul Off (Asgar).
(½ Mile- :45.58)- For much of the turn, there was little change in the running order of the field. Bright Moon was still out front, with Eye Catching running right beside her. Approaching the exit of the turn, we began to see End Of The Devil looking more interested in making a move, but she would need room to do it. Fortunately for her, she was right behind Bright Moon, so could then follow her than slide to her outside, finding a lane between her and Reaper Lightning. Heavenly Dime wanted to do the same but had more of a problem with traffic. Reaper Lightning and Its Real were still very much in a good position here. Bronxbabesarebest and Awesome Angel were in a traffic jam now if they wanted to make a move, while Decimas Queen had the desirable room developing to her inside if she was able to take advantage of it. Beat Down and Sister Nancy continued to be caught wide, and Sinisoul was another one dealing with tough traffic. The two early trailers, Neon Star and Kuul Off were trying to get closer, but deciding which lane to take would not be easy for their riders.
(Finish- 1:14.45)- In a tight pack, End Of The Devil runs just a little bit better than everyone else, and this allows her to pull in front by half a length with a furlong to go. That would be just enough for her, as she would maintain a steady stride all the way to the wire. Heavenly Dime got room late, but on this day End Of The Devil would get his due over Heavenly Dime. The queen, Decimas Queen, settles for third and the reaper, Reaper Lightning, gets the final piece of the purse. Awesome Angel had the right name to be fifth here, but instead settled for the sixth spot behind Bronxbabesarebest. Sister Nancy’s prayer on the outside gets her seventh over Sinisoul. Next would come Bright Moon, Its Real, Kuul Off, and Neon Star. And for the winner, it was an Eye Catching (and) Beat Down.
About The Winner- End Of the Devil, trained by Maxmillion Farm and ridden to victory by S X Bridgmohan, is a three-year-old filly by Cherokee Devil and is out of End Of The Bay. She was bred in California as a yearling by Maxmillion Farm, the only trainer for which she has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fifth in 14 starts, her third stake win and second graded win. Her career earnings are now $1,635.440.
